Lightbulb Book lovers in need of a categorization tool?

I know that we've got more than a few bibliophiles here at TPG. I thought I'd share a program that I've been using for a while.

Readerware - Music, Video & Book Database Software

It's called Readerware. It catalogs Books, Music and Videos. I started using this way back in the Palm Pilot days and used it to have a portable accounting of all of my books.

I just recently upgraded to the latest version of the software (3.x) and am now using it on my Android. I am able to scan the barcodes with my phone as I un-box all of the books and shelf them.

If any of you have lots of books like I do and want a way to carry a complete database of your personal library with you (saves from the annoying rebuys) then this is a great tool.

15 Boxes emptied and only one left to go.

483 books scanned into database and synced to android phone. I am a happy bibliophile.

I've been considering. But I really like the tactile feel of books too. Its part of the experience I guess. Turning the pages, hearing the binding creak a little.

Last box of books being emptied and scanned. Up over 500 book. About 60/40 hardback/paperback.

Shelves are getting full and that means that I get to get another in the office (and one up stairs for the kids books).

Yeah - I like the books.

Re: Book lovers in need of a categorization tool?

I grew up for a good chunk of my childhood on a farm in the country in central Illinois where my closest neighbor was more than 4 miles away. The large multilevel farmhouse we lived in had a full actual real life library that my mother filled at a couple of estate sales. I would spend the cold winters in that library (no cable TV back then) flipping through books on a range of topics. My favorites were the picture travel books that talked about far off places that a little kid on a farm in central Illinois would likely never get to see. (those are the places on my travel list FYI) To this day I still love to visit the library here at ASU and just go and pick a book at random from the shelves. I love my kindle for the ease of reading and having access to almost any book I want but there is still that gratification you get from actually holding a bound book while it takes you on a journey through your imagination.
