Totally disagree! I have extensively screwed around with my settings and even at 1280x1024 x16 AA looks much better than x4 AA. The edges are so much softer looking, even x4 to x8 is tremendously different. Further, the difference in AA from x4 to x16 shouldnt matter much at all for battlefield series games on that 8800GT's temperature or framerate.

Maybe you are thinking of AF (anistropic filtering) not AA (anto aliasing) which can be extremely taxing on the GPU from x4 to x16. I actually never increase AF beyond the default settings because the visual difference is so minimal and the impact on GPU is so extensive.

What? Police? What are you talking about?

I am running SLI 8800 GTS 640 cards, and at 1280x1024 I did not notice a difference from x8 to x16. and for battlefield series games my framerate was not at all impacted by the increase. Oblivion on the other got super laggy and I run it at x8. Some games dont anti alias very many surfaces which significantly affects the amount of work the GPU does when you crank up AA. If I turn on "override" instead of "enhance" on BF series games I notice a framerate decrease of about 5 (which is nothing because I am never under 55 anyway). Override applies AA to every surface, not just application determined surfaces. I actually use override for BF series games because I like the way it looks at x16.

Also, the 8800 GT and the 8800 GTX are very close in performance because the GT uses the new G92 technology. It outperforms my 8800 GTS 640 and costs 100 bucks less (damn them to hell!)
