in the console. Some servers will list what they have modded in their names (or just that they're modded in particular). You could find a server that had no one in it and just vote to go to a new map and then restart a campaign/change difficulty.

I just get them by chance. Towards the end of L4D1, almost all servers became modded to some extent. Just keep searching around. =)

I don't see any console.

thanks, I got it.. but cant see if the server has what I want.. such as knowing if the SI hurt me..
