Re: Warhammer Online any HRD's
I can talk crap about mmo's and say they aren't worth it because I've paid my dues in almost every one of them (even EVE Online) up to and including WoW. I haven't touched one since that one came out because I stopped wanting a JOB of my game. I want to go in and play a game and enjoy it.
Try becoming a master fletcher in Age of Camelot and you'll see what I mean by having your game become a job.
BF2... in most regards... and it applies to most FPS games... is nothing like a job. You can hop on for 10 minutes and kill a bunch of chinese and leave. To do ANYTHING meaningful in an MMO you have to play for far more than an hour. In some cases in Everquest, if you were questing for something (old style Journeyman Boots for instance) you might have to camp a single log... for DAYS waiting for the random spawn. And there was no guarantee you'd get it because there was most likely a few people sitting around that same log with glassy stares on their faces as they waited for the same mob. It just... isn't... worth it.
Now I do say "in most regards" bf2 is nothing like a job. And in most servers... it's not. But TTP....... sometimes it can seem a bit like it. I've actually been meaning to find a way to broach this topic and this seems like a good place and time to do so.
Playing on TTP can, at times, feel more like a job than a game. Usually this is when you have a total ASS for a squad leader... like a certain "mom" that recently led a squad I was in. This person seemed like they were going out of their way to ring my "bell". You HAVE to follow this person's orders... even though the squad leading isn't that good... And the constant stream of obscenities and bitching makes you want to just turn off the speakers entirely... And through it all is the threat of a kick or ban if you finally snap and tell this person where to take their 'tude and shove it.
I know the general policy of the server/community is "it's NOT just a game". But it is. And people that play here do what they need to to continue to play here because the benefits FAR outweigh the detriments. But people do play this GAME to have fun. And sometimes the policies tend to interfere with that if for no other reason than through intimidation. I read the banned and admin abuse forums extensively (or I used to anyway) and I have to admit... sometimes I think the bans are a bit heavy handed. Most of the time they are warranted, but some... I just think they are questionable. And the admin abuse forum... That's just a horribly hostile environment to enter even just to READ the posts. I'd hate to be someone that genuinely thought they had a real complaint.
But as I said... the benefits are far greater than the downside so that's why we all play here and suffer through the bad squad leaders, commanders, and such. But it does make it feel less a game at times.

Hmm, very interesting read there Kanati.
Can MMO's feel like a job? Yes.
Are MMO's always a job? No.
Its all in the eye of the beholder. I for instance like questing and playing and working towards a goal for hours on end. I enjoy having fun, sitting back on vent, talking with my guild mates while pwning bishes in PVP/RVR. I ENJOY the "job" that MMOs offer. Just because you didn't like playing MMOs, doesn't mean that they aren't worth it. Now to you they aren't, but thats a decision best left up to each individual.
As far as TTP being a job, I think you're missing the point of TTP...or maybe I am so ill put my views out there. TTP to me is a place where people who enjoy the order, the discipline, the teamwork, this is where those people gather. If you have a shitty SL, hey that can probably make your playtime a little less enjoyable, however at least that SL you referred to was trying to lead. I would much rather have a shitty team leader than to have everyone running around doing nothing.
If you think playing on TTP feels like a job(admins aside), maybe you should rethink why you play here, or why it has that job-like feeling. Is it because you as a person dislikes being yelled at? Is it because you no longer enjoy the team play? Or is it just people that get on your nerve? I don't really think the job-like feeling is TTP's fault. I feel like its more the players themselves.
Now, please don't take this as a personal attack, since I don't really know you, but as mentioned before, I think TTP isn't the cause of that feeling you get.
Who knows, maybe you just need to recharge.

Re: Warhammer Online any HRD's
Oh believe me... I still love to play on TTP. If I didn't I wouldn't be a reservist and go out of my way to be the most prolific "ttp shopper" out there. And it doesn't ever feel like a job because I can simply log off if I'm not having a good time. Not that big of a deal. But sometimes I just like to hop on a noob server and "pwn bishes" as the post above states because there's less... responsibility isn't the best word, but it's semi-accurate.
And it's also not that I didn't have fun playing MMOs... Some of the best times I've ever had gaming were the first six months after Everquest was released when everything in that world was new, and even the game mechanics were an exploration. And while there are some great things to be had in most MMOs... The overall grind vs. great things ratio for anyone not already maxed out on level, with tons of phat lewtz and money is not really worth the effort any more. I'm relatively certain I had 80+ hours in AoC getting to be a master fletcher. And that involved bouncing between three merchants and the tools to create arrows. I played EQ for over three years solid. There's some 9 or 10 maxed out characters and some 10 million plat out there in circulation because of me. When I stopped using an account I gave it to buddies and they took over where I left off. I've done more than just dabble with most of these games.
As with everything, "your mileage may vary". For me... MMO's just don't have any tread left on their tires.
