Building them is fun but fixing cars blows. Why a pontiac engine? I built a pontiac 400 bored 60 over about 10 years ago. They are a strong motor but the power output to dollar ratio is way out of wack. I stick to the gm's now for the most part when building. They are just a cheaper engine to build then the rest. I have a 400 sb 4 bolt with a set of camel humps, hyper pistong, i beam rods, currently at a 421, the list goes on. It sits on a stand never dynoed but should hit somewhere around 550 hp. I dropped 2500 at the machine shop before i started the build. Currently have about 6 grand in it but no where near what i want. So i have an identical block stripped on a stand right next to it waiting to be started. The wife is going to be pissed when i start ordering parts for that one.

    Pics coming soon...

    About the Pontiac...

Pontiac's are more expensive to build than small block chebbies but almost everything is. I am mainly drawn to the pontiac because:
    1. Its kinda a family thing.
    2. OEM Pontiac blocks and cranks are stronger than OEM SBC stuff.
    3. The OEM pontiac valve angle is approx. 14-15 degrees (SBCs are 23 degrees)...making for a killer theoretical potential for low-lift flow.
4.The Pontiac aftermarket situation has greatly improved and there are some killer heads that are reasonably priced. (On BBC price levels)
    5. If I change my mind, I can change displacements more easily in a pontiac...all ponchos blocks 389 and up can be worked out to 501 CID...if so inclined.
    6. Cool Factor.
