4GB should be enough, if you have enough flash drives sitting around. Be aware that not all flash drives are compatible.
Even though you may not need to install the games you buy on disk, most COD games eventually come out with DLC content which will fill up your flash drives quickly.
Although the Xbox hard drives are pricey, they are the cheaper route in the long run.

4GB is plenty so long as you dont install any games to it. I have a 250GB drive, with about 10GB used up, but I have installed Bioshock, MW2, Oblivion, Mass Effect 2 and a few other games. The load time is noticeably shorter especially with games like ME2 and Oblivion where there are lots of load screens. If she is only planning on playing BO2 on it, you should be able to install the game and still have plenty of space for save game data, updates and what not.

I just bought the new 4gb because my old 20gb xbox red ringed. The 4gb is actually 2.9gb, if you delete all the demos and junk on it, you can squeeze 3.2gb out of it. All I use my xbox for is streaming netflix, and call of duty, and 4gb is plenty for that. Halo games will not work, they require 4gb of free space. Flash drives or external hard drives are always an option, but they need to be high speed or they won't work properly. Microsoft makes 16gb flash drives for the xbox, but they are like $70. The 8gb are around $50. And external hard drives only allow 16gb partitions. So you can potentionally max out at 2x16gb, plus the 4gb, making a whopping 36gb for $140!

I heard it is possible to disassemble the old hard drive housing, and its the same thing as the new ones. You can usually pickup an old $20gb hard drive for around $40ish, and convert it over. I'm going to try it and I can let you know how is goes.

Conclusion: the 4gb will be more than enough unless she wants to play halo.

Thanks guys! I Bought the 4GB version today plus an extra controller from Amazon. I will probably buy a game or two locally in the next few days.

I'm in the process of listing all the Wii games/gear I have bought. The Wii was great at first, but it's shine faded fast. I just wish I didn't buy so many of the damn Guitar Hero games.
