Damnit Bob you're supposed to make me feel better about my decisions.

But yeah while I considered it, the reliability of the cheaper more in my price range SSD is only a couple years or so. Whereas the slower drives will last, hopefully, twice as long if not longer.

If I were you, I'd drop the RAM to 4GB and use the savings to buy a 60GB SSD. Unless you're doing some crazy photo/video editing, you probably won't see a gain in performance above 4GB. Also, by using the SSD as a system drive you can pretty much drop the 2 drive raid and save money there too. Just get yourself a large, fast magnetic drive to store everything else.

I use a 60GB for my system drive and I haven't ran out of space yet in the year it's been installed. I use larger, magnetic drives for my games and other files. I personally think having a super fast hard drive setup for games is overrated. You'll load the maps faster, which isn't really such a big deal when playing online games because most servers have setup timers to even the playing field. In a game like BF2, loading the map too fast will get you PB kicked for "modified content". You will not see an increase in frames per second. Using the SSD as a system drive is great because Windows becomes super responsive and the startup time is insanely fast. NO REGRETS.

    Re: So upgrade time

I say the ditch the i7 and get a x6 AMD. That is unless you do video editing or other very processor intensive things. Games are not really utilizing the difference in power between these processors; but BC2 (and probably BF3 as well) is very core-hungry.

I am only saying this because that is what I am building! Also, the power per dollar card is the Radeon 5870. Maybe build an AMD solution and get more SSD and GPU?

Meh, I posted in the HW forum where I am piecing together my new rig. You could build a crossfire rig with way more GPU by getting a less flashy mobo and an AMD.

With newegg combos I had pieced together two 2gig Sapphire 5870's, a 3.2Ghz x6 and a Mobo that supports dual 16 PCI-E lanes with 8gigs of DDR3 2000 for right around a 900 (I am using my old case and PSU). I have always been an nVidia user, but their cards are just too expensive for the output right now (save the 560).
