Wow this is a big step towards creating a robotic brain. kinda scary tho

US researchers have simulated half a virtual mouse brain on a supercomputer.

The scientists ran a "cortical simulator" that was as big and as complex as half of a mouse brain on the BlueGene L supercomputer.

Our home computers will be able to do that in 5 years.

I find it ironic that we've spent years developing very efficient and specialised problem solving programs and they talk about using a simulation of a mouse brain to solve problems which is many times less efficient. It’s an interesting toy I suppose but I don’t see any real application for it at this point.

A step backwards in the wrong direction. Sure, it's a sign of things to come, to be able to replicate a mouses brain. But there's no use for it.

Replicate a human brain next.

The idea is to start-out small (i.e. mouse brain), then get larger and more complex (i.e. human brain). Staring out large and then keep going is a perfect way to set yourself up for the assfuck of the century on a major project such as this.
