Re: We may finally get Bigdog to play Eve now
Some say the legend of BigDog began as far back as 1930 when he created a game we now know at Battleship and sold it to a company named Starex who sold it under the name of Salvo. He planned to market and sell the game as BigDog's Naval Game of Fuckin Death but people refused to back a game with a name quite that... intense.
After a brief stint as a navy frogman in WWII, he was released on a section 8 after he was determined unfit for duty. It seems that running into the field of battle yelling that the "dirty german bastards are hacking" and shouting "SUKKA FREE" after every kill was deemed a little outside the norm by the top brass.
Resuming a civilian life, he fell off the radar for a number of years before surfacing again in the early 1970s in time to help Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson create the game Dungeons and Dragons. It is said that he was the creator of the terms "favored enemy" and "critical hit". Unfortunately, BigDog decided that the actual players were his favored enemy and critical hits were when he pulled out a large wooden sword and cracked a player over the head for metagaming. He was subsequently removed from the credits of the game prior to publishing.
Again he disappeared for more than twenty years before purportedly created both the world wide web and online gaming with the sole purpose of putting up a web site known as Texas Teamplayers where he could utilize all of his prior experiences wrapped up in one little package. Today his disciples look for "mad hax" amongst the teamplayers... perform critical hits ("bans")... and basically continue the ethos of the Teamplayer developed over the last century of legend.
Today, like the loch ness monster, aliens and fellow bigness BigFoot, sightings of BigDog are rare. Screenshots of him in game are usually blurry and unfocused or inconclusive at best. Posts on the forum could be made by a bot or by people continuing the legacy like L Ron Hubbard. Surely after all of this time, he cannot exist. Or if he does, he must be old and retired by now. The world may never know.
Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them. -- Bigdog
