He will come in for the space flight part but when there is something else to do he will move on to another game like he does in BF2. He is either in a jet...or another game.

Come on in. The space is fine.

While I know this has been answered previously, and well I might add, please allow me to expound on the answers...

    1) Most combat... for now... is ship to ship. However you can also man the large weaponry fixed to a player owned station and destroy ships attacking it. I would say that accounts for less than 1% of all combat though.

    2) Yes. If you make enough money (in game ISK), you DO NOT have to pay for your account. You are able to buy things called ETC/GTC's (EVE Time Cards or Game Time Cards). These are bought by other players, and sold to you through the game. You get to play without paying real money, they are spending real money to buy fake money. I make enough that I haven't paid for my account in months. And I'll probably never pay again.

    3) There are no "levels" in the game, only skill. Your skills train even after you've turned off the game and gone to bed. Each skill has 5 ranks, and each rank learns at a different rate. So for example, learning a skill to the first rank might take 20 minutes. Learning it from 1 to 2 might take an hour. Learning it from 2 to 3 may take 12 hours and so on.

***I'll explain this in more detail on Vent***

    4) All of the above. Every person joins a corporation. Your corps goals are not set in stone, meaning you can create a vision for your corp that meets the needs of everyone in it. Will you be a pirate corp who extorts ISK from unwary players to travel through your space? Will you become an industry juggernaut and aggressively defend your interests with bloody campaign of war against your rivals?

How about a bounty hunter who track real players down for ISK?

What about a member of the star council who makes policy for all EVE players?

Will your ally itself with other corporations and form an alliance bent on creating a star empire in null sec space? Or will you be a humble mining corp built to wipe entire asteroid belts clean in a matter of hours? So you see, what you want to do in this game is completely up to you and your corps leadership. There are many different ways to play.

    5) Yes. Oh God yes. Skill matters a great deal, both in game character skill and meta game player skill. But it's more strategic than tactic in a lot of ways. Ship to ship combat requires you to understand ranges and damage types, in conjunction with transversal velocity, angular velocity and direction of travel. Many people make the mistake of thinking this is a point and click combat system. While you may think that in the beginning, it is not.

Soon you will recognize the subtle nuances of the combat system and how to build out the perfect ship using the modules available. Then it becomes unbelievably fun. I will say this... unlike most MMO's where if you die, you have to repair armor or retreat to another section of the world, in EVE, the penalty for death is somewhat more painful.

Remember, you have to pay to make ISK, you make ISK so you can play the game. So if you spend several hours a week gathering the ISK through missions or mining to build a ship only to lose that ship within 20 seconds of a fight, well... you have to replace it before you can fight again. So you see, teamwork matters. The more ships you can put together, the easier it will be to rebound.

Oh... and you will die. Often.

    6) The purpose of the game is what you make it. See answer 4. You want to sit around and have a cool looking interface to chat with friends and play missions? Go for it. You want to take it more seriously and start making a name for yourself? Go for it. Unlike most MMO's where the goal is to kill five wolves, bring the tails back and increase in levels ad infinitum, in this game, you choose. You can even get to the point where you are creating missions for other players to play. Now that... is fun.

    7) Your race matters very little in EVE. However, the ships you choose to fly matter a great deal. Which we can discuss in greater detail over Vent. However, I will say that all skills can be learned by any player. There is no set "profession" that locks you into one set of skills.

I would suggest making sure you stick to your skillpath though because if you change frequently, you'll find your skills are all over the place and you aren't really good at anything.

    I hope this helps.

    And this...

... is a game you should play since your FPS skills are getting kind slow and unresponsive with your old age.

a mite further on what Ranger said regarding race...

any player...can with training fly any other races ships.

You are not bound to the weapons/ships native to your race...it really is ALL up to you.

Essentially, if you are spending your time in game getting ISK, you are spending time to play your account for free. That is how I look at it, and I like it.

Which is another way to make a living spending ISK for your account. Many people think that the only way to do it is by mining or running missions again and again and again, which takes considerable more time.

You can bounty hunt and if you are good enough you could get complete 5 contracts and have enough ISK to pay for a month or two. Bounties can get pretty damn high.

If you are good at math you will also love this game, but math skills are not in any sense required.

Me and anyone else who are veterans of EvE will GUARANTEE you that you will not find an experienced player who has not lost a ship or died at least once.

Your race, school, and profession choices are all merely just to get you started on a path you want to go on. And making a second player on one account to train another profession will not work unless your main character on that account is at a stand still on where to go with training skills, you can only train ONE skill per ACCOUNT, not per character.
