Thread: My latest adventure

Okay well for the past 4 months I have been dealing with a local matter of a newly fromed development LLC that just bought a the land behind my house. They've decided they want to excuvate the entire area and get it ready for "future development" Word on the street is a resturant. Pretty much in the middle of no where. We are located in a state forest. While 5 minutes down the highway you get to a major shopping center.

Okay so they plan on taking out 46,000 cubic feet of sand and gravel, dump 8,000 in the northern section because its level with the swamp. Then they want to put in two building pads, one in the south and the other in the north. The northern one is were I call bullshit and have a belief other parties are standing at arm's length to make sure the entire thing goes through. But I'm also not big on a 14,000 sqft building bad right behind my house.

This area also happens to be crawling with a buttload of wildlife, the properties also in a prime location for 2 endangered species known to show up in the spring.

Well the simple fact is they want to destorey all of the wetland's upland review area for about 50% of this region of wetlands next to my property. That area happens to be were a majority of the wildelife lives.

Once I pointed out several facts to the party involved they suddenly realized they didn't get any of there homework done, they have revised their plans multiple times now for failure to comply with regulation with the town engineers. They higher a company to create a report on the wildlife who spent 20 hours on site making note of what animals are there. All taking place between the end for August and some of September. Not the most extensive research operation.

Anyways I've had the lovely job of becoming an ajoined legal party to this operation, weeks of research on regulation and relative science, and enjoying monthly town hall meetings where I get to bring a block of paper work to table while they show up and say, "we aren't ready, we need another month". Three times now. This Thursday is the day they have to present what they plan to do or have to retract their application.

They are trying to sneak this project in step by step so wetland's board doesn't have a full picture on the impact.

The major joy is the fact that my father was a member of the wetlands board and had to reques himself so he could speak as a member of the public during the meetings. I'm the intervenor so I too have played a heavy role in the entire operation. This last meeting however was specially schedualed to the applicant hasn't blown all their time. It just so happens the this is also the week my father went away on vacation. So I get to go at this alone. The general public really doesn't give a shit until there is a light at the freeway exit and rundown abandoned shit shack is creating an eye sour down the street.

I get to stand alone against hired scientists, lawyers, and a jackass.

Having endangered species should be all you need to halt the project. They just had that same issue over a highway project in texas. If you need any help let me know. If you have an online petition post it up and i'll gladly sign it.

One of the species is a toad that only comes out in the late spring/early summer. Only at night, only after a certain amount of rain fall and a certain drop in presure. The rest of the year they live 8 ft under ground. They have been found less then a mile away.

They highered a small group of inspectors/scientists to come in and look the area over for these species.... At the end of the summer. When you don't find them. They spent 20 hours on the site listing a number of species and plants. It is there profession opinion that this is a prime location to find them. It is also in there profession opinion they aren't there. We came at the wrong time of the year. We only inspected the property over a very small window of the year. But they must not be there.

Man... Good luck with that. Hopefully they will consider a different location. (Why can't these people freaking buy up the places that have went under and remodel them to what they want? I have tons more respect and give my dollars to companies that recycle buildings than the ones that don't.)

What's bull is they claim this operation is to meet the demand for commercial operations in the area. The town proposed a plan 6 years ago to remove all comercial zoning in the area because it is not economically viable. What's silly is the land right next this property is a bone dry hay field. Yet, no one is charging the gates to get their hands on that land.

I love this little fact that they list on their resource links, Bio-Impact studies "should be calculated differnet times of a year(e.g. spring, summer, and fall)
Mid August into September, mmm that doesn't really cover 9 months out of the year....
