Well the Mephistopheles' Stout was extremely good, strong, & potent. This bottle was shared with my brother and my best friend Ann and we all enjoyed it. It had both a complex nose and taste that was devine (even for a 'deamons of ale' brew) It's not cheap (was about $9 for the bottle you see above) but if you apreciate a good potent brew, (and are strong enough to stand up to it) I'd recomend tracking this one down. It will only be available for a short time. Hints for finding it near you can be found on the Avery website.

A note of caution. This is definately not a swigging brew. I recomend decanting into snifter glasses. One 12 oz. bottle will do 2-4 people. It's good with appatizers, but do not server with dinner as it will overpower the pallet of most foods.

Today is also the 14th aniversary of my best friend Ann and I and we have been saving a Dogfish 120 minute IPA for the occasion :
    120 Minute IPA
Availability: limited - 3 releases scheduled for 2007

Release Date: Jan, May, Sept. 2007

Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45-degree plato, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continuously hopped with high-alpha American hops, then dry-hopped daily in the fermenter for a month & aged for nother month on whole-leaf hops!!! Our 120 Minute I.P.A. is by far the biggest I.P.A. ever brewed! At 20% abv and 120 ibus you can see why we call this beer THE HOLY GRAIL for hopheads!

    20% abv

While this is both more potent (40 proof and 120 ibu (off the scale what is IBU it is no where as dark or thick as the Mephistopheles' Stout. Review of this will come later on this thread.

well I'll weigh in on the dogfish.

It was strong, more like drinking a wiskey than a beer unfortunately. I'd though I'd never find a beer that was too strong, but it's flavor was quickly numbed out by it's potency. This was a beer that should probably be served in shotglasses to slam down rather than sipped and enjoyed.
