Re: So there was an earthquake today...
Got a bunch of reports of buildings being evacuated, and of course the local news found every Tom, Dick, and Jane that had a story of how "I was sitting in my living room and my cat started pacing back and forth. I found it very annoying since i was trying to crochet her a pair of booties. Anyway, she was pacing around and meowing and all of a sudden the house started to shake.... bla bla bla bla yadda yadda ya..... mothers dishes broke..... bla bla bla .... picture fell off the wall..... bla bla bla.... almost died if not for the kitty warning me....." OMFG, IM GONNA PUKE IF I HEAR ANOTHER FUCKING EARTHQUAKE STORY FROM THESE YOKELS IN UPSTATE NY! Christ, the GP freighter that goes by my house every night at 8:15 shakes more than a 5.8 that's 300+ miles away!

Re: So there was an earthquake today...
We're over a 100 miles away and stuff fell over, monitors scooted along the desk, and the siding on the house was making all kinds of interesting noise.
The part that blew was no phone service but txt data worked and Internet was up but no voice comms except the trusty ham radio :-O
Good times!Packetshooter

I think the no phone call thing is something to do with clearing airwaves for emergency personnel (or something of that sort) not 100% on that though.
If it makes any of you on the East Coast feel better, there is massive hurricane coming in a couple days. Kind of worried about family back east with the hurricane (don't think the earthquake was felt there, probably a bit of shaking if that was how it was where scott is), my Grandmother (on my mother's side) place looks like it will be right in the brunt of the storm, and I think the town/city most of my relatives live up there will be in that brunt as well.
Speaking of that, are you planning to stay there Scott is the storm keeps on the path, or going to head out? That area around Albany looked like it would be hit pretty hard by the storm. Same question towards crx and packet (not sure where you are exactly, but at only 100 miles, should at least get some of the wicked winds and a shitload of rain) as well.
EDIT: Last I saw put it down to a tropical storm in the Mass/VT/NH area, and even less for most of upstate new york. Jersey is going to still take a big pounding it looks like (last I heard, it will be around Cat 1 when it hits around there).Last edited by Red_Lizard2; 08-26-11 at 01:43 PM.

Re: So there was an earthquake today...
Were staying put. They have downgraded the risk level here, winds around 45 mph, and 4 to 7 inches of rain. Im on high ground and the 60 foot willow that was perched about 20 feet from the house came down last spring, so we should be ok. Most likely we will be without power for a day or two. There's a lot of forest up here, the odds are a good that a few trees are going to take down some power lines. Also, the Verizon hub in this area has been flooded before, so even if we get power back, i wont have internet or land line until that gets fixed. Just got a cell phone yesterday, so i should be able to keep in tough with everyone with that.
