Reinstalling stuff - be back later

I just slapped a new gaming rig together on Monday. I backed up all my data onto my external Monday night. And today when I got home I pulled my 4 disk RAID 10 out of my PC and put it into the new build as a 4 disk RAID 5 to act as my data storage. I have 2 SSDs in RAID 0 for the OS. So I'm in the process now of installing essential programs, games, creating clean system backups, and then I've still got to move my data from the external to my RAID 5. Once that's done I need to put the drive I'm using as the external into my old PC. I'm planning on donating that to my parents to replace their old craptastic Dell.

I'll probably only finish half of the installing part tonight because I'll be out of town Wednesday through Saturday. So expect me back in action on the servers late Sunday or maybe Monday.

Holy shit... use a server nubtard! Then no worries about moving data. Plus, if you have any network attached gaming consoles, all of that data is available on them as well. Meaning... like all of your music is available to anything on your network or any videos you have... or movies with digital copies (Put them on a server and play them to any gaming console).

Hell, take your old gaming rig, go buy Windows Home Server, load it up with HDDs and install. You don't even have to worry about setting up a raid and all that jazz. Just stuff it with HDDs and install. Windows will take care of the rest of it. You can even have it store your data on multiple drives. It also monitors your network and lets you know if it's out of whack. It'll also setup it's own website so you can even access all of your stuff with a web browser anywhere in the world even remote into your computers if they have Pro or better installed.

You know Cybs, since my computer is usually on anyway, streaming my media via a media server directly from the storage drive on my PC and using PlayOn on the PC makes more sense than going out and spending more money on setting up a Windows Home Server. It's just me in the house so I'm either in the other room with the TV and PS3 or at my computer, using one or the other. Besides, I'm more interested in not losing the nearly 6,000 pictures I've taken. The RAID 5 gives me that extra security as well as the extra 300 gigs I didn't have with the RAID 10 which I need for my SSD system image backups. I rarely stream the media files anyway, but if I want to I'll still be able to with no problem. Besides, when I changed out the HDD in my PS3 a while back I copied a lot of music to it also since it was looking kind of empty.
