The Ark server is several days behind the current build. Anyone who has updated to the current version is unable to connect to the server. I had posted an application to administrate the server but was politely told that it wasn't going to happen. If the server is going to be consistently behind the update schedule then it will be consistently unplayable for several would be players. I also posted a thread over 24 hours ago that has over 75 views and 0 replies regarding a simple restoration request. Forgive me if I am being crude but I'm beginning to feel like TPG isn't really interested in their own Ark server. The server appears to be neglected and if there aren't any plans to improve the situation please be blunt with your members so that we can make a decision on where to play.

Re: Server is currently version 223.4 unable to connect
Server is being updated as I type this. It is best to put updates and other server issues in this thread: CRASH REPORTS
That thread is monitored more closely by all highs and places the info on one location rather than scattered through out the boards so that we can act more timely.
I have brought up the issue with the other highs and am hoping to come up with a better solution to the frequent updates. As for your restoration I have asked those more familiar with the game to see if that is possible. My understand is the backups can only restore the entire server and not just one player. I am hesitant to do that as it wouldn't really be fair to all the other players to lose that time. I'll know more once they respond.“Honor has not to be won; it must only not be lost.” - Schopenhauer

Re: Server is currently version 223.4 unable to connect
It's kind of sad I started on another server and there is almost zero rubber banding lag with twice as many players. Probably because they have admins that play the game and experience the poor performance of the server. This is a good example of why not to start a new server unless it has good admin support. Save us the actual people real people that play games the pain.

Re: Server is currently version 223.4 unable to connect
There's no reason for any of us to get defensive about this, because what you're saying is right. The real questions I have are ... Is the server too far gone to recover? What attempts could be made to reduce lag? How often does it lag? Why are these issues just now being brought up?
If it's an admin issue where we could control the different aspects of the game, we can promote members to an admin role, but that's not going to help the lag. We need to do some troubleshooting for that.moving-target liked this post

I play on another server, and it has lag and rubberbanding too. I don't think it is TPG specific. As for admin tools there are some out there. A friend of mine uses Home | ARK Server Manager.

Re: Server is currently version 223.4 unable to connect
To be fair, we've been discussing the lag issues for a long time. And I really need to point out the fact that 80% of the server were NOT tpg members. So you were basically relying on the few tpg members who log in here and read the forums to either notify you of an update or let you know about server/game issues. This is a key example of why having an admin who plays or checks in on the game regularly is the only way to really take care of the server. It would be nice but you can't really expect other random non-tpgers to come in here. They expect an admin to be handling that stuff on their own (as is done on other servers).
The server is most likely too far gone at this point. None of it is due to 1 specific thing, it's an accumulation of events that lead to it's demise. Fallout 4 coming out created a mass exodus of players that have still yet to return and I assume won't. With that population out, the remaining players did not have any any tpgers on to notify the admins of patches and thus it fell behind...only adding to the feeling of neglect on the server. As players began exploring other servers (including myself) you begin to realize that yes, a lot of other servers do not have the rubber-banding or lag issues (yes some do - but a lot don't). I assume its something that can't be helped but the fact that ARK is hosted alongside a bunch of other games can not be helping the lag situation. I was on one server yesterday where an admin was issuing the same command over and over for an hour, turns out he was clearing out abandoned bases which keeps lag down. We've never had any housekeeping like that.
Could an active admin had changed things around before it got this far? Maybe. I felt like a lot of us were pushing for awhile to get new players, advertising in forums, upvoting the server...but it got to a point where either I (or Buddy Lee) were the only ones. It would have been nice to have had an admin who played and cared as much as we did to keep the server going to the level we were trying.
That said, I had fun playing with everyone and meeting new people/friends. I also appreciate all the efforts put in by tpg

Re: Server is currently version 223.4 unable to connect
It's not fair to assume that volunteers such as us admins can, on their own, put forth the effort required to have a successful server. It's a community effort overall. The admins aren't going to do it all. Besides, I think you all are right for the most part, because the only 2 in-game admins are me and Krom. I don't have the patience to babysit people in Ark, nor can I be expected to handle the daily updates on my own. Remember, I too, am a volunteer, with a full time job, a wife, and a kid.
If there were major lag issues, they were never brought up in these forums. Whenever there was an admin needed in game, I was there, I dealt with the trolls that everyone was complaining about, I changed the server settings to match what everyone wanted. Don't forget that every time there was an update, I was pushing people to upvote the server. Hell, probably 15+ of those upvotes are mine.
I also remember either you or buddy stating that we shouldn't be admins if we don't own the game. We have 12 high admins, who aren't on any sort of payroll, but are somehow expected to purchase a game so we can log in and send messages. I think those expectations are a little too far fetched.
Where we failed in this game is the lack of admin options during the setup and our failure to establish an admin player base. Since then there are tools available, but I or others haven't vetted them, and to be honest, with the playerbase of Ark, the vetting phase would come with many player complaints.

Re: Server is currently version 223.4 unable to connect
Yeah lag issues are likely cleanup in-game from what I've read, but if I had seen any sort of complaint here in the forum or someone had dinged me with a PM or steam chat I could easily enough have added some CPU cores to it to see if that would help things any...
