Re: MXM for long range
I'm sure some one does but I prefer the new scope with the mxm.....Gives good up close accuracy and the mxm is usually a one hit wonder....but popping that scope up to x4 and it is as good as an arco.
Sos are great on the lynx and the cheetah both are big guns with very fast projectiles making it more likely the target is still there when sniping 1.2 + km out. cleric nailed a guy a few days ago at over 2km out with the 12.7 I just don't think the mxm or abr would have made it there b4 the guy moved and if it did, it's damage would be greatly reduced....but thats just an assumption on my part and we all know what assuming does.Muqtar liked this post

Re: MXM for long range
I like the SOS for the ranging option even with a MX SW up to around 700 meters that thing is deadly.
But what is this x4 scope you are talking about, is it new this week?

Re: MXM for long range
I'll do long range if I have an SOS on me, it's a great feeling to get 700m+ kills with 6.5 or 7.62. Whenever I plan on using the SOS whether it is with a .50 or MXM, I ALWAYS equip a close/mid range scope by default . If I'm far enough to snipe with an SOS, I have enough time to switch to it. Rather than be caught in a short/mid range fight with a long range scope equipped.

Re: MXM for long range
The release of the sniper package really changed the way I view the MXM.
Yes, you can still do decent damage at long distance up to maybe 900m-1km. But, you are lucky at best to get a 2 shot kill (more likely 3+). I would also *never* attach a silencer if sniping over 400m. It does less damage and it screws up the sights/aim and you'll never be able to hit anything (not to mention who is going to hear the shot anyway at that distance). If you're sniping 900m it's tough to plug a player multiple times before he moves. So I find alot of the time you just injure him and give away your location. Instead I would just move to a closer range where the MXM is more effective (If you're sniping, pick a closer spot to your expected target). If you want to sniper without spending the big bucks on the Lynx or Cheetah, I think the ABR is by far a better solution. Bigger round, higher velocity, more damage. Much better chance of hitting and killing.
If you're sniping the SOS is by far the preferred scope. But just because you can hit someone at far range does not make that weapon "effective" at that range.
Here's my opinion of effective ranges:
Everything but the Zafir by varying degress effective at less than 400m.
MXM - <400 deadly, 400-600 ok, >600 bad
ABR - <600 deadly, 600-800 ok, >800 bad
Lynx/Cheetah - deadly a long way out.
This is the reason for the Lynx and Cheetah. Also, I like the Lynx for the sole reason Texan mentioned earlier. Less delay for the shot to reach it's target over the Cheetah. The longer the shot the more this matters (When i finally fire I want a kill and not to lose it to a split second movement by a player). Plus, greater damage - especially to vehicles.
I'm curious if you guys agree with this.

Re: MXM for long range
I've gone a slightly different route and tote the zafir whenever I can get my hands on one. Do like Mitch and equip it with one of the midrange scopes, but keep an SOS for long range shooting. Its accurate even at 5-600 meters and is usually a one shot kill. Does have a pretty good kick, but settles back on target. And yeah, it'll rip up a vehicle at close range pretty fast :-)
