It's looking like SA will be taking the same path in the Alpha stage atleast.
The BMRF forums are discussing this now. As well as the impact it will have on their community.

Well if that is indeed the question. Not really.
There was a Mod for Arma3 called "All in Arma" That converted a ton of A2 mods into A3 compatible mods.
But now someone has made a Dayz like mod Especially for A3.
That's the Video above.
So as per the Original Question. Is the Official DayZ MOD will work on Arma 3 ? No.

DayZ Standalone is made by Dean Rocket Hall and Matt Lightfoot, They are the Proper BIS funded Dayz Crew.
Dayzero, DayZ Breakingpont A2/A3 and Dayz Epoch are all Community Modded Versions of DayZ.
I agree that building both at the same time will Split the Population until one eats the other.
I have confidence that Dayz Community Mods like Breaking point for A3 will prevail.
The DayZ modding community has come soooooo far since Rocket First debut'ed his DayZ mod to the public. It's miles beyond Vanilla Dayz. and Continues to Grow. I find it hard to believe that a Company, or Branch of a Company (dayz SA a branch of BIS) Will opt to allow much of the game changing tweaks that Modders Willy nilly code into their games. ESPECIALLY when DayZ is set to be Ported to Xbox1 and PS4.
We may be looking at Years of Dayz mods getting regular updates, OR 1-2 years of a Finished DayZ SA with zero to Few updates past release. I also can't help but wonder if 1-2 years from now that Rocket will say Fuck it, and try to convert SA to the Arma 3 Engine.
