I am sorry, but that just looked buggy and awful. Why do the player animations look so bad when you shoot them? And why did the walls collapse?

Nice on the kills, but the enemy movements and player animations look like a FPS game from 1997.

Well, it is a mod....and animating is one of the hardest things to do.

    Re: Got'em!

It is notoriously hard to tell if you hit someone in Arma. To make this less of an issue for players the devs of this mod exaggerated the animations so that you know you hit someone. It doesn't effect your movement or field of view in any way. It is simply for players to know that they hit what they were shooting at.

Um... I think that is a pretty lame excuse. Some of that stuff is just built into the core engine they are "modding" off of. It shouldn't look THAT bad.

lol..? How is that a lame excuse? Most mods add things that aren't in the original game. So, you can't just slap the old animations onto a new model. It doesn't work that way. There'd be clipping, and all sorts of other problems. Judging by that video, it looks like it's still early in development.

Have you played DayZ? That "mod" has been in development forever, and it still has terrible bugs. I don't know if it is because they are using the Arma engine, or what, but if you didn't realize from that video, there were all sorts of problems. I mean, the wall just randomly collapsed after he shot that guy.

I am sorry, but game developers don't get to use the excuse of "it's a mod" or "it's in beta" anymore. They need to be open to criticism if something in their game is shitty, such as the death animations Source captured in his video, along with the magically falling walls and broken physics.

Fix the shit, or you won't be taken seriously.

lol..Don't you know that no mod is AAA perfect outta the gate? Animating and 3-D modeling is not easy. You don't just pick it up.
    cdg.net

Tons of games started as mods. Black Mesa, Day of Defeat, Counter-Strike, Red Orchestra, The Specialists, Insurgency, Fistful of Frags, No More Room In Hell, Project Reality....just to name a few. Even the game you now know as BF2, started as mod for BF1942, called Desert Combat.

    Re: Got'em!

To end this silly back and forth in Arma the goal of anyone developing a mod for the game is to have it actually work and have all the functionality all there over it looking pretty. Anyone into Arma will tell you the same thing and though we do like pretty things as much as the other guy we would prefer them to work first more than anything else. The people who make this mod in particular subscribe to this philosophy and this mod is by far one of the best most heavily developed mods for Arma 3. They have done things previously I thought impossible and they just keep coming out with more and better additions to their mod almost on a weekly basis.
