Quick start guide for Arma 3 Epoch on TPG
Quick start guide for ArmA 3 Epoch
When you spawn in,
You will first spawn in a general hub with three manhole covers (West, East and North). Choose one of those by clicking the space bar when you see the white door icon (same to open and close doors in game). You will spawn at a trader area on the chosen area of the map (these are not safe/god mode traders).
Inventory management,
Press the I key to bring up your inventory. When loot-able items are within proximity bring up your inventory and they should show on the left hand side. Right click on the item or drag it to your body. When areas of the inventory system turn red, it indicates that the item you have selected is not compatible or will not fit there. When the area is white it indicates compatibility and you can drag the item to that area.
All players spawn with a stylish fanny pack which you can store items in but dragging them onto it. A capacity progression bar will show below the storage item indicating how much space the item will take and showing the remaining space in an item like a carry rig or backpack.
To access items saved in a storage item double left mouse click it and it will open showing its contents on the left panel of the inventory.
To use an item in inventory such as food or drink double left mouse click the item and a use/cancel menu will appear.
If you wish to drop an item you can on your inventory and drag it back to the left dropping it on the ground. Other players can then see and pickup these items.
Zombies,
The Sapper is a zombie without arms and explodes when it gets near a player. The Priest is a skeleton looking creature that breathes fire. Zombieland Survival Rule #2: Double tap to the head, should kill them.
About the debug menu,
Press the tilde key ~ key to bring up the debug menu. This is what it looks like - A2Epochebug Menu - Epoch Mod Wiki
Stamina - Sit still to increase stamina to help run longer (SHIFT + W to jog)
Hunger/Thirst - Consume food and water when these numbers get low or symbols show in the top right indicating an issue. Some food also increases stamina and immunity (honey).
Soiled - Indicates how dirt you are and you can reduce this by using moist towelettes.
Damage/Bleeding - Should be fairly self explanatory but keep your damage low and bleeding on false.
I will post more when I know what they are!
How and what to loot,
Some items will show a "search" on them when you are close enough. When you see this click the space bar. Other items like trash cans, pumpkin patches and garbage piles so not show the search, when standing close enough click inventory and the item will be looted. When looted you can click inventory again and see if any items spawned (generally you can see the items before clicking inventory).

When you join a group,

Reading the map and waypoints,
Every player spawns with a map that can be accessed using the M key. When points are enabled, click SHIFT + Left mouse to set a waypoint on your map. The way point will show in game as your distance from the way point.
Map legend,
- Black circle equals a Protected trader.
- Brown circle equals a trader that has lived at least one restart. "Not Safe"
- Green circle equals a Trader that was killed and respawned.
- Red circle equals a Dead trader.
How to move in ArmA 3
Adjust Pose
Adjust your stance by pressing [Left Ctrl] and:
- [W], [S] for rise or crouch.
- [A], [D] for half-step sideways.
Diving
- Aim down and move forward [W] to dive.
- Ascend with [X].
- Descend with [Z].
- Move with [W], [S], [A], [D].
Leaning Sideways
Lean to peak around corners and still have most of your body hidden behind cover.
- Lean left: [Q].
- Lean right: [E].
You can also lock the character into a leaning position by pressing [2xQ] for left or [2xE] for right side.
Use the lean keys to roll while in the prone position. Try it: [Z], [Q], [E].
Free Look
Free look enables you to move while keeping awareness of your surroundings.
- Hold [Left Alt] and move the mouse left and right to look around.
- Tap [2xLeft Alt] to toggle between static and free look.
Free look represents turning the head sideways and up or down. That's why you cannot look directly behind you. This works the same for vehicles – usually only a commander has a 360° view.
Sprint
Press [Left Shift] to sprint away from danger or towards cover. Sprinting increases your fatigue.
Sprint works in all stances, try using it while crouched [X] or prone [Z].
Movement
Use basic controls [W], [S], [A], [D] to move around and explore the surroundings. Use the mouse to rotate and adjust the direction.
Stances
To decrease the enemy's chances of detecting and hitting you, use different stances:
- Crouch with [X].
- Go prone with [Z].
Crouching and going prone also stabilizes your aim. To stand, simply press the Crouch/Go Prone button again.
When prone, you cannot use launchers.
Walk
Default movement speed is run.
- Press [C] to move more slowly and silently in a combat pace.
- Press [W+S] to walk.
Tactical pace is best for moving slowly while maintaining a steady aim.
Death
You are dead. There is nothing you can do besides restarting the mission from a save point or from the beginning. Better luck next time.
In multiplayer you will be able to see who killed you.
Fast Travel
Fast travel is a method of quickly getting through a safe area.
- Open the map [M].
- Select Fast travel and choose a destination.
Alternatively, use fast travel through the action menu:
- Open the action menu [Mouse wheel down].
- Select a spot to travel on the map.
Stepping Over
When passing a low obstacle, step over it with [V] to shorten your route.
Combat Pace
Combat pace is a move stance with weapon raised permanently to the shoulder. It trades movement speed for situational awareness and faster reaction time. This is particularly useful in urban areas. Use [C] to toggle combat pace on and off.
Combat pace and lowered weapon stance are two independent body poses. Try switching to combat pace [C], lowering your weapon [2xLeft Ctrl] and raising it back [2xLeft Ctrl]. You will return to combat pace.

Traders & Currency
Loot gear and you can "sell/trade" it for Krypto the official currency of ArmA 3 Epoch. When you find a trader (see map legend below for locations of traders) you look at them and press your inventory key. Select shop and you will see a menu with your gear listed on the left and the gear they have collected on the right. You can add you gear to a list in the middle and it will add up the potential krypto you will receive when the trade is complete. Items all have different values so only trade what is worth it and what you don't need.
Once you select trade you will see the amount of krypto you are carrying will be indicated in the button left of your screen. Be careful though because if you are killed players can loot your krypto.
How to deposit your krypto for a rainy day? Find phone booths in cities (eg. Outside of the store in Berezino). When standing in front of the phone booths clicker your inventory key and a menu will appear allowing you to deposit and withdrawn krypto. Once deposited players cannot take this and it is safe.

Re: Quick start guide for Arma 3 Epoch on TPG
Traders can be killed . . . even by accident. I found an electric bike, was hauling ass to get it inside the hangar with the trader & was trying to come to a stop. When I was finally stopped, got off the bike, the trader was dead. I must've ran him over, but I don't recall getting that close to him.
FYI: Killing a trader spawns a UAV, which if you hear the classic modem dialup sound, spawns 3 AI. I had forgotten about this when I accidentally squashed the trader (cost me $1500 in the value of the bike being sold!). In a hangar, there isn't much cover, so I was rightfully spooked when the UAV spawned AI (it was too high above me to get a shot) but a blue tarp loot spawn gave me cover enough to take down the AI & bug out.
I seem to attract UAVs. The other day I ran from Msta to Solichny with a UAV on me the entire time. I couldn't shoot that one because I only had an M107 with iron sights & 5 bullets.
