Server Performance
I'm curious what frame rate the actual server gets, I notice considerable slowdowns with 25+ people playing. Looking forward to the new Epoch update that shows server FPS in the debug.
We used to run an Arma 3 Wasteland server on Stratis and at first we had considerable lag with 50 players on. Then we found this server performance file: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/582opsto4mmr8d8/3BSy9PdRGm
We ran the server with that with smooth frame rate for over 6 hours at times with 50 players.
More info on it here: Arma 3 STABLE server 1.40 "performance binary" feedback
I'm not sure if that server performance file would have any effect on maps other than Altis and Stratis though, I don't really know too many details on how it works, or if it would work in conjunction with mods like Epoch. Might be worth taking a look at though.

If you press the "~" (tild) key while ingame you should see the FPS in the bottom of the debug monitor.
The server has yet to be stress tested but everything seems smooth at the moment. Keep us updated on your thoughts or experiances. Oh and welcome to the forums. You don't even have to wipe off your combat boots to come in anytime.

Re: Server Performance
We get ya.. usually when server side fps get weak you'll get warnings in the logs and to my knowledge this has never happened to date.
We've intentionally selected missions, addons, mods.. etc... that keep the server running smooth. The majority of feedback has been that we pickup alot of players because of the high frames and smoothness people experience here vs some of the other high pop servers.
That being said. Things that improve the situation are absolutely worth looking at!
That link you posted is direct from Dwarden which instantly gives it high rep and we'll be looking into it.

Re: Server Performance
Just a quick TY to Cobbs.
We've been looking at and testing Dwarden's performance.exe since Epoch 0301 has proven to be more of a resource hog than prior versions. This along with other changes/optimizations we hope to release once they pass full testing procedures on our hardware.
This kind of input is greatly appreciated.

Re: Server Performance
No problem, I've been obsessing over making the Arma series run better since I used to play on an old e8400 Core 2 duo. These days I have much more power, but I've always been a budget build kind of guy.
There is one more thing that may be worth taking a look at, I use this personally and have gained 10% better frame rate. It's fred41's custom memory allocator. This can be used both client-side and sever-side. https://github.com/fred41/tbbmalloc_arma
This is per recommendation by Dwarden himself.

The key thing is that you must have "lock pages in memory privilege" enabled. I'm sure your server has that ability, but for any clients looking for better frame rate and don't have access to the local group policy (windows 7 and 8) you can do this:
1. Download Windows Server 2003 Resource kit tools. Download Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools from Official Microsoft Download Center
2. Install as administrator.
3. Run cmd as administrator
4. Enter ntrights +r SeLockMemoryPrivilege -u USERNAME (replace USERNAME with your computer username)
5. Copy tbbmalloc.dll in your arma3/dll directory.
6. Append -malloc=tbbmalloc to your arma 3 start line, run arma 3 as administrator.
As per the instructions on Github you can check the logs to make sure it's working for you. I benchmarked better FPS using this, just to be sure it wasn't placebo.Last edited by Cobs; 04-08-15 at 12:26 PM.
