    Re: Trader Cities

Original Arma2 Overpoch had protected trader cities. Serious question, did you play that mod? I only ask because a large group of TPGers (the DayZ crowd) were brought back to Arma2 because they enjoyed the mod that much.

There were constantly players in the trader zones. You had to strategize your escape plan before you left because it was guaranteed that someone was waiting for you.

Trader cities promote PvP. You just need to find a strategy to make it work in your favor. As Krom said nothing wrong with "road blocking" a couple hundred meters out and waiting when you know someone is in there.

IMO Traders citys create PvP i cant count how many times ive left a trader zone and got shot at by some douche sat in the trees a few hundred metres away. You just need to use them to your advantage, Lots of players enjoy having a safe area to go to and i believe that if we took them out we would lose a few players due to it. Every server has its bambis that want these safe spots to trade their items but as krom said whats stopping you setting an ambush up to kill these bambis once they leave the zones, im not saying camping them is fine but being a distance away from them and catching the player leave is fine.

Some things were great about the trader cities, some were not.

    I'll start with the great.

It was nice to have access to trade items, sell items, and go afk for short periods of time without worrying about logging off. It was nice to have conversations with people within the zone. There's a lot of good information that can come out of a trader city that would assist in strategy.

    The bad.

There was constant trolling. You could get a vehicle from the trade zone and have someone follow you out only to chase you down with something faster. In addition to that it's a central gathering place so it has a huge target, and it not only enables trolls like this, it somewhat approves of it. I also don't like people camping the entrance < 300-500 meters out waiting for a kill. Usually it's one guy on the inside saying "he's coming out of west" then his other buddy takes him out and then ravages the stuff.

This is strictly my opinion of how things went down in A2 Overpoch.

Not to mention the player interaction it promotes. You can meet up with your group somewhere safe and also make trades with other players for rare loot somewhere safe as well. Also it they give new players to the server somewhere to go to find people to team with. The benefits of the safe trader zones far outweigh the negatives.

There are always trolls at trader zones. It's a nice little safe haven for them to fuck with you and be their troll selves. This is why you learn and adapt. You do what you need to do and get the fuck out of there and you always bring a friend or two.

You will get killed at some point leaving or entering, it happens. Once again dont make the same mistake twice.

As our server evolves Im sure the admin communtiy will need to look at enforcing some blatant unacceptable behavior at traders.

    Re: Trader Cities

The first time I went to a trader city in arma2 overpoch was with trigger and talkos (maybe even blonde?)

We came fresh from a mission in a car loaded to the brim with fat loot to sell and specialty guns. We might have even done 2 missions back to back, I can't remember exactly but I remember we got there and snagged all the loot before any other players showed up. We floored it there under fire and while there, the other people saw us selling and buying sweet gear. They all called their buddies and showed up at the trader too. By the time we had geared up with legit stuff and were ready to head out, we were outnumbered about 20 to 3 and everyone was following us around, waiting for us to leave so they could follow us, cap us, and steal our stuff and our car. It was equal parts exciting and terrifying. It felt like a couple of cops rolling through the wrong neighborhood and getting stared down. We had to come up with a plan to get out of there and soon before even more showed up. I went and started running in circles around some of them, talkos I think went over to the banker like he was buying something, and trigger got in the car and started driving around the zone randomly. Basically we scattered them around enough to create an opening, we both jumped in the car as trigger drove by, then we got the hell out of there.

In short, I don't like trader cities or safe zones either, but they are part of the game and they add a neat element if you're into that sort of thing. If you're like me and don't like them, just stay away and go loot elsewhere. I don't bother with money or anything, I just use what find out in the world
