If you're completely new to Dota 2 I recommend you start with bot games, after you finish the recently added tutorial. The tutorial will teach you very few of the basic mechanics of the game. Read Welcome to Dota, You Suck for a good primer on the game. Also, take advantage of the awesome in game spectator mode. You can learn a lot by watching games.

Got Dota 2 installed last week and needless to say it is very overwhelming. Never thought I would have fun getting my ass kicked by bots every game, but it is very satisfying when you do pull off a gank, or help your teammate do the same. Even though there is a lot to take in at first, Im finding I am enjoying the challenge of learning this game and improving each day.

It takes 6 months to understand the basics and 3 years to master.

Without any MOBA experience that is.

Australian-I feel for ya bro gaming on a piece of shit you should be twice as good at any game you play. Thats really really a scary thought. Part of me does not want you to get a new rig.

^^^ Great videos, especially some of his gameplay videos, he goes somewhat in-depth on what he's doing and why he did it (map reads, creep line reads etc). I've been playing DotA 3+ years and I'm still learning stuff from his videos.

If it's your first time playing a MOBA just remember....you will always suck, even when you're good...you suck. And there's a lot of people (unfortunately) in the DotA community who will be more than happy to remind you. Ignore them, you have more important things to worry about in game than a flame war. After you've got a lot (A LOT) of bot games under your belt, you've got a decent grasp of most if not all heroes, and you are somewhat consistently winning games (mainly just you feel you don't hinder the team in any major way), look into joining an IHL. That's where all of the true learning will happen.

If anyone has any questions feel free to add me on steam always looking for people to play with.
