Very cool review, I must say I'm agreeing 100% with you on this, I finished Rage, then BF3 SP and MW3 SP. Rage makes those two games look linear, boring and predictable. The patches made the game much better, I can see myself revisiting the game with intentions on doing more side missions, I will admit as the ending pressure mounted I felt the urge to rush to the objectives rather than playing cards or having some fun races... I played on ultra all and the game blew me away on how gorgeous and detailed it was, the graphics feel was very Half-life 2 in some respects, back when HL2 was the pinnacle of graphics (Mmmm where did gorden hide?). Yeah this game is a great escape from the COD clones and quicktime BS of modern shooters.
