Thread: Bought a buttload of prismacolor pencils...

Decided to try out colored pencils seriously... I've dabbled in the past, but never really done anything with it.

So I decided to update my avatar which I did in acrylics about... 15 years ago give or take. Probably take...

Didn't want to spend a lot of time on the sketch since it was basically a "test" picture to determine what works and what doesn't with colored pencils (erasers... don't... just saying.) So I used someone else's painting of Nightwing as a base for the pose and Robbie Amell as the model for the head.

Here's what I have and have done tonight... Can definitely tell I don't know my way around colored pencils very well, but I figure once it's shrunk down from 12x18" to avatar size you won't be able to tell much.







I'll work on it again over the weekend maybe and update this.

Just me but I think water color would be cool.

I've often thought about water color. But whenever I've tried they they've always warped the paper and never covered / filled the way I expected them to. I like acrylics but hate mixing paint... tried prismacolor markers and didn't much care for those either. I just haven't ever found a color media that I've cared for much. I always fall back to ink or graphite.

Hopefully I'll find that the graininess goes away a bit when I start blending these (using paint thinner instead of burnishing pencils). I'm also going to try a finer toothed paper next time and see if that works better.

hrmmmmmm... I may restart this. I just watched a bunch of videos on the inktense water soluble ink pencils. I think it's time to go to the art supply store and spend buttloads of money again.
