Because as english speakers (Federation Standard) we named the race klingon, and the language klingon.

I am not an expert in klingon, but I am fairly sure the klingon words for klingon (race) and klingon (language) are not the same.

And their might very well be different dialects of klingon, but as the Federation we do not know enough about the enemy as we would like to think.

That's why an art major friend of mine working up in Chicago crochets for her artsy hobby. It's cheap, still looks awesome, and she can still sell them when she's finished having fun.
