The problem is your graphics card, as it is far below the minimum specifications for the game. The main issue here is that it is based on DirectX 8.1, as opposed to the required DirectX 9. While it supports DX9, it doesn't do it well. There is nothing you can do but upgrade, which might not be a bad idea anyway as with a dual core processor, your 1GB of ram and video card are bottlenecking the hell out of the system.

wasnt req 128? and on the list of acceptable video cards the 9250 is listed. so. shouldnt be video card. and my other 256 mb card works just fine, confusing hell outta me lol ill check out and post more stuff in morning

Make a shortcut for L4D on desktop. Click properties and then add this to the "target" -windowed. If it loads up in a window, tell me.

either i forget how to do it in window, lol or it doesnt work when im doing it right
