Looks like you have figured out layer styles! Good.. they are essential in my opinion.

I noted your assasins creed guy is very dark, and the Texas logo has the default color for "outer glow."
You can double the box that has the color for glows/shadows and it will open up a color chooser so you can make glows/shadows any color you want.

I gotta say though, I am using photoshop 6.0 (like 1999) because it works fine for me. these kids (and maybe even you!) are probably using newer versions that behave differently, so I hop I am not steering you wrong.

Also, your background is very vivid, you could mellow out the tone a bit by using "color overlay" style on the background and making it black and then adjusting the "opacity" of the "color overlay"

Although you can take any image and use the layer styles (outer glow, inner glow, drop shadow, inner shadow, bevel/emboss) to make it look like the lighting on your characters matches your background's lighting. When you play with the layer styles try altering the direction of the light to make your characters match the light that be in the background, and like I said previously, you can change the colors/highlights in these layer styles to match the colors of the background.

I personally use the "polygonal lasso" and zoom in really close then snip away pieces of the the background until I have isolated the character to get a nice cutout.

Also, you can use "drop/inner shadow" and/or "outter/inner glow" with a very low size, maybe even turn up "noise" to help soften the edges of your cutouts.

Yeah, its got that new unlock able armor shit. I played it at my friends house and he has that headpiece.
