Thread: TTP Steam Skin... Soon...

Well, I have the "skin" done. I am just trying to figure out how to put pictures in the backround of the games/server part. I want to do a TTP esque logo (with a person from all the games) in there. Anyone know how to place that part of the code into the .res? ALL my colors and actual skin are aabout 95%. so... Ill give it my all.

Skins/ your skin / Steam /cached / SteamRootDialog.res

Use GFC Scape, extract it from winui.gfc

Open it, below the SteamRootDialog lines of code,

Edit these line to your reflect your picture size, and where you want it to appear in the window.

The only problem is the picture is not transparent, or behind the text and icons, if you figure that out let me know how you did it.

This will only appear in the full game icon launch window, not the Server Browser window, something tells me when all the old skins broke due to an old Steam update, that pictures wont work properly anymore, could be wrong though.

Very good! Next time I have a few minutes (away from work) I will try placing that code. I searched the Valve Developer Community like 10000000 times for something that straight forward. Now I just have to get my X and Y working right. =D I will update when I can.

Well I placed one. But I am still in the transparency / behind text sh*t. I have downloaded a skin with said picture and it worked. I tryed finding the code and then placing it... not much luck as of yet...

Ok, I got a picture to show in the server browser box behind the fonts and icons. I could only do it with an existing Steam skin that has one already that works, Dark Messiah.

It doesn't use the SteamRootDialog.res, it uses the steamscheme.res

Download it, and look for the lines containing DM_bg_00

I couldn't replace this name "DM_bg_00" with my own graphic name for some strange reason, nore could I get his lines of code to work in another skin as of yet, I could only get it to work with my graphic renamed to the current name DM_bg_00, using his Skin.

I used a 32 bit TGA.

The stock skin is ugly as hell, but the whole thing might be able to be rebuilt, you might just have to keep all the current stock graphic names to get it to work properly though.

Something tells me Steam is blocking images unless they are named after stock images, like DM is skin created by Valve for Steam, and is probably embedded in it some place.

If you have better luck with it now let me know, and what skin did you find with a working picture?

Lol, this is a pain in the ass.

Pretty much done with my conversion, just a couple little tweaks to do here and there, this is what I got, if you need some help let me know.
