Re: TEAMPLAYERGAMING.COM LOGO CONTEST! ROUND 1!
I think it may be helpful to have a quick brief written on what TPG's logo should communicate. I know there have been many slogans in the past, like "resetting the standard of online gaming" (knowing what standard? might help), "no one stands alone" (nice, but unoriginal). If TPG is to stand out form the rest, I believe it should be original and different, which it is at it's core. How do you say that with a logo? How do we communicate visually who TPG is to new members and guest without words? Please a bit of help with direction.

I really like this one. It's very simple and would be fairly easy to re-create in a vector graphics format. I like how everything is contoured, from the fonts to the players and weapons. The black outline around everything makes each aspect stand out on its own. The headset displays communication. The two players back-to-back displays cooperation.
However, it appears to emphasize FPS games. It's true that we are a community with a focus on FPS games, but if we expand from that, this logo wouldn't really fit non-FPS games such as League of Legends, Diablo 2, Diablo 3, Starcraft 2 (if it has a multiplayer aspect), etc.. The logo we choose should be something more generalized, and one that we can keep for a very long time.
BTW: Congrats on your 1,337 post.

Eh, not too bad... maybe jazz up that sparkle on the fuse/mouse cord. TPG is melded together nicely. Within TPG, color gradient can be almost any color which will allow it to blend well with other background colors (e.g. shirts, mouse pads, hats, etc.). This doesn't focus on any specific type of game (e.g. FPS, RPG, etc.) with the mouse cord/fuse logo.
Other than the text, it doesn't show any aspect of team player gaming. Also, I'm not sure why we would need both our abbreviated name and our full name within the same logo. We ought to have just one or the other. I'm not saying this about your submission, w4jchosen, but out to everyone submitting their offer. If we look at the logos (Electronic Arts) bigdog provided examples of in his original post, only 1 of them has both the abbreviated and full name. Here is another example of many logos, most of which do not use abbreviated names:
With that said, since our web site is teamplayergaming.com, may I suggest that we do not use our abbreviated name in the logo until its better known and hitting the top of search page ranks?

Thank you and no need to recreate, it's vector.
It definitely has an FPS motif, as I usually only play those. I do agree that the TPG logo should communicate more than that. Would replacing the sniper rifle and cap with a sword and Viking helmet do?
Is 1337 a milestone or something?

I feel that phonetically "TPG" rolls off the tongue easier and with all the events TPG will be attending, "TPG" is what I believe the crowd should be saying. The reason I'm using both the abbreviated and full name within the logo is exactly for the reason you mention. "Electronic Arts", you never say that anymore and rarely see it. Why? Because until they were better known the full name had to be there. After establishing themselves it was easy to remove the fully spelled out version, as the abbreviated form had always been there.

1337 is leet.
I wouldn't say putting a cap and sword or Viking helmet would look right, unless it is done in a manner similar to say TF2 so it can relate to TF2 and the other games we discuss. However, since we are primarily an FPS community, I don't see too much harm with using that design. The idea I would think is to focus on the fact that we enforce teamplay. The way that particular logo is now works perfectly that way and would not hold unless it is redone a lot more to fit with a sword and shield or Viking helmet, etc.
I agree. EA is the exact same example I was thinking of. Start off with both for now until we get better known, especially just changing over from Texas Team Players since TTP was known somewhat around the gamer community. Having both now will allow us to remove the full name later if needed and helps from having to totally redo the logo later on.
