Preference for me would be to have the difference in color indicate read/unread. Read/unread is more important to me than hot/not hot.

lol... yeah but the color may be misleading. Maybe it should say POPULAR rather than HOT.

Well... it's not going to say anything at all when you see it on the forums.

It will if it goes in the Legend at the bottom of the forums as I'm sure we can update that as well.

I actually like the first idea better. The dot in the middle for "hot" or "popular" topics doesn't make as much sense to me.

Perhaps changing the color instead of the dot similar to what we've seen in the past?

Like have the "hot" topics be a bright red for unread and a darker red for read. The gray color for normal read posts and a darker or light gray for unread posts. Or something along those lines.

I'm not sure, I just don't like the second layout as much.

unread should be the Blue color scheme. then for 'hot' make the dot in the middle red.
