    Also, is there a way to keep the damn mini map from rotating with me? I would prefer it stay in the same orientation.

    The only way I am aware of is by zooming out twice... I forget the default key bind for it though...
    And you may have to do it everytime you spawn (although I think the latest patch fixed that).

    I believe N is default map zoom key

    And no there is nothing in the options to set your map to static.
