Although, how can you tell in this instance that this is what he meant to imply? For 'why?' has a question mark on it, thus marking it to be a question, so there for in order for your thesis to be correct, he must have been answering a question with another question, so therefore; Why is a question and an answer. So the question to which is sub-implied is what is the answer which is the question to the question which was the answer?
