If they do the 5 - 10 attempts and then locked out, someones just going to have fun locking you out constantly.

Better option would be the two-factor authentification like Blizzard uses.

That's true. But.....if they actually gaf they could
lock the account.
Contact the user on file.
If user was not attempting to login then block the IP address(es)
They would then more successfully stop account theft.
Or two factor auth.

Either option though requires work and care for the customer and generates 0 $$ so......
