Thread: The Unwritten Rules - How About We Write It? :)

I think the topic explains it all but just in case I'm talking about the "No Armor until x vs x players" rule.

I personally don't care if it exists or not but I think its about time it gets written. I see plenty of regulars get pissed off over and over people some stranger comes into the server and start using armor before its acceptable.

And another part of the problem is it becomes acceptable at different times for different people. Some people armor is fine after 8 v 8, some its 10 v 10. Why not set that part of the rule finally and put it in the rotation for messages on the server that pop up?

Another idea would just be to set it to do no-armor maps while the server is set to 32 players then include armor maps when the server switches to 64 players.

Thoughts?

It would be a pain to police IMO. Just gonna push through it for a 20 minute round and move on. But in my book, if your gonna bring it out, don't bitch when you loose it and it gets rolled on you.

And the other unwritten rule is it's not a transport. It's a tank. It's a moving bunker you can use to get anywhere with no damage if you want to play no "kill" armor.

Too many problems writing them down. One, it is not an enforced rule so if somebody starts using it they are not going to get kicked for it. another would be where would it be written? If we write some agreement in the forums then pubs won't see them anyway. And we don't want to clutter up the chat with a bunch of rules and policies. It's best to just tell people in chat and hope they have enough class to do what's best for the server.

As much as it kills me, this is the reason why its not a server rule. It should be clear however that when regs say no Armor any Blueberry who uses it should be mocked mercilessly by all regs, until he decides to leave.

I disagree. Ask the person not to use armor with the reason why. If they wish to use it then load up engi, mine all roads, and take it out. We should not be running people off for doing something that is not against any rule. I highly doubt that there will be a written rule to not use armor.

As for removing the armor, I think it tags us as a custom server and removes us from the random match listing. I could be off on that though.

There is one thing that gets under my skin, people who scream no armor when a smurf on their side is using it, then push and arm Mcoms anyways.

We used to have rush only maps until x amount players came. Then the server would switch to conquest large. This game us the option to turn off armor on rush maps. Not sure why we stopped doing that. Conquest even on small isn't as much fun rush. Especially when its 3v3 you can still have good time in rush vs conquest flag hopping.

Yea I don't know why we don't play Rush on our server. Imo people enjoy Rush more then Conquest because you don't get vehicle spammed and less vehicles is more fun anyways.

As to making an unwritten rule. This is our server, we can chose to do whatever we like and players will abide. If we make a rule that you don't use tanks before 8v8, then people will follow that rule. You ask how? We kick anyone who breaks that rule, very simple. To many people are scared to lay the hammer down in fear that we will lose players. When in reality I think we will be gaining the players we want here at TPG and getting rid of the asshats who don't even capture flags nor play this game from a strategic standpoint. Players enjoy when a server enforces rules, especially when those rules are legitimate and created to promote fair play.

With enough kicks and admin messages it will soon become clear that you do not get in tanks when there is less then 8v8 on the server. To much work you say? It's no more work then what I already see going on in the server.

I'd love to see rush back on the server, its my favorite game mode with TPG.

I just figured I'd bring it up in the forums since it seems every time I help prime I see someone get pissy over people using takes for an unwritten rule.

If its unwritten, it shouldn't be kickable I think. If its written, and it would only have to show up when < x players, then kick away. But I think the simplest solution is for sure just doing maps that don't have them when the server is set to 32 players.
