And my argument is that you add too many people in the channel and it's a clusterfuck. When we ran team-based channels in Bad Company 2, it got to be very confusing and annoying when you got above 8 people. Throw in further complications of people in vehicles trying to coordinate (and communication there is almost more key) and you have a recipe for disaster. Everyone can argue "Oh you just need better comm management". Right. There are people who just don't know when to shut the fuck up. They tell you every time they die, their complete load-out of their kit before they respawn and then proceed to sit there and talk through every single kill they make. As admins we could be dicks and tell them to shut the fuck up, but then they're more likely to not join TS.
As for your argument that adding 2 more people to the threshold before it switches to squad channels... it really will not make much of a difference. What I'm telling you is from a technical standpoint, the way the plugin works it will not make one difference. ZERO. So then you will want more... and then you're getting into the zone where there are too many people talking. We had plenty of times where people wouldn't join our TS server when we were playing BC2 because there were too many people on. They would rather go on in ignorant silence than be annoyed and distracted by too many people talking at once.

This subject has been of heated debate. I wouldn't worry about it.
Come to think of it sometimes I wish there was a way to do things around here without a heated debate but one can argue that without one some things might go unnoticed and therefore leave room for an undesirable situation.

I think the sweet spot 15-20 people. You can have a few squads but you can all relay info - "tank at A", etc., without the comms being too busy. REALLY wish we could have squadleaders communicate. It's such a joke that this game has no commander. How can you possibly expect to coordinate a team without one? Extreme failure. After no VOIP, no commander is the worst thing about the game.

Re: TS free for all or squad chat?
I was inclined to go with squad, but recent experience on the server has changed my mind.
I think there is value in "team TS" up until the numbers become too large ... I'm not sure what the upper limit ought to be .. 10? perhaps.
I've found those on TS at TPG to be helpful; that is, they communicate information well and coordinate well. In fact, I think it can be helpful for admins and regulars in guiding newcomers into appropriate behavior and "etiquette."
I do like that folks work to get into squads with people in TS. When we do that, the game is more enjoyable and the team work is amazing.

God grant that I may not be found wanting, that I will not fail this sacred trust.
