Gents ...are you serious?
Handing out 110$ for a one video game?
I am not a poor guy and neither am i rich, but it is beyond my understandings why those games nowaday´s have to be this expensive. 75€ DeLuxe Edition +50€ Premium for a one game,it equals to 166.3375 U.S. dollars here in Europe. And all of that for a digital download??Last edited by Kill8ox; 09-14-13 at 03:31 PM.

I don't need physical DVDs. I have a closet full of DVDs that I never use anymore. Digital delivery is where it's at.

Re: Get Battlefield 4 & Premium 25% Off!!
This isn't the tread for a rant, but I think I understand it.
It feels to me like the Battlefield series started off as some people who wanted to make a good/fun video game and figured that they could probably make some decent money along the way. They worked hard to make a good game, and as it turned out they did pretty well on the money side too.
Since BF3 (and I'd include BC2), it feels more like a bunch of people who want to make a lot of money, and in furtherance of that goal they're making a video game. Having it not completely suck will help the money side, and it's possible that at some level having it be really good will also add to the bottom line.
Selling Standard, Deluxe, and Premium versions is all about (in fact, ONLY about) making more money. It's bad for gamers. It feels to me like the entire structure of the game, and how it's sold, and how it's administered, is now primarily about protecting and enhancing the revenue stream from a popular franchise.
I want the game to be good, and I'm fully prepared to plunk down my money for something that I like and represents value to me. But I don't know of any way to judge "like" or "value" it until it's out.
But that's just me (and also, maybe, you). Lots of people are going to be giving EA lots of money before this thing is even playable. Looking at EA's pre-order page, I see that buying "Premium" gives you "two-week early access to all five expansion packs". Yes, you too can pay for the privilege of giving EA more money two weeks sooner than anyone else.
So that's how I understand it: the motivation to make the game has changed. The behaviour we see from the people who make the game reflects that motivation.
Cheers,

The one key component to your observations Ae is that EA bought DICE right around the time that BF2 was released. DICE went from an independent studio whose games are published by EA to a wholly owned subsidiary. It's no small coincidence that it's been downhill since. The DLC/Premium model really does drive revenue. Joe Gamer tries to join a server his friend is on and is told he can't join because he doesn't own a DLC package that isn't even currently being played. What does Joe Gamer do? He runs off to the Origin store to buy Premium so he can play on the server. It used to be with BF2 & 2142, you could connect to a server if you possessed the DLC/map currently being played. If a map came up you didn't own you were disconnected. BF3 initially started out like this. the B2K DLC pack allows you to connect to the server if you don't own it and a vanilla map is being played. All the other DLC packs (which came out after Premium was released) don't even allow you to connect to the server if you don't own all the DLC in the map list for the server.

Re: Get Battlefield 4 & Premium 25% Off!!
Completely agree.
I think team-oriented gamers got lucky with BF2. But people who play that way are the exception. There just aren't as many of us. In-game squad-based voice-com is a team feature. A commander with assets, intel, and voice-com to squad leaders is a team feature. But remember why you came to TTP's server - the vast majority of BF2 servers were filled with people who didn't care about any of that.
I was sad that the BF series didn't continue to incorporate those features - but it's not surprising. Most people don't care about features that encourage team play.
My godson likes Spiderman and Batman. He wants PlayStation games with Spiderman and Batman in them. Some of those games have been pretty good, and some of them are terrible.
But he knows he wants a game because Batman.
He wanted CoD:MW2 because everyone wants it. Are you stupid? EVERYONE wants it. If a person doesn't have CoD:MW2 then that person is clearly not winning.
There are lots of people like that.
Shit, sometimes I'm like that. Some of my favourite FPSs have been deathmatch oriented.
If you already know you're going to get BF4, then buying ahead of time may be a cheaper way.
Cheers,

Bring these opinions here too!
Lets talk game prices (And why they are too cheap).
Lets talk game prices (And why they are too cheap).
Honestly I can say I'm not surprised this happened, and I understand reservations about spending $110 on 1 game, something that I wouldn't do on a sp game... That being said if I play it for 11mths that's really $10 a month. I'd prefer to see the base game cost $25, and $10/mth subscription to Battlefield Premium, and that way I stay up to date and get to play the fun events etc. I spend $110 just taking my family out for a meal and gassing up the car. For the same price I'm getting multiple hours of fun. I find it very acceptable to be honest. I also think-----

Re: Get Battlefield 4 & Premium 25% Off!!
I'd like to mention this, that 2 days we had all DLC on our server recently, I played on the server until it switched to a DLC map, then half the server got kicked(and a lot of TS guys too)
when you try to join the server without all the DLC, it brings up some "get premium" window, however in very small text in the bottom right of that window it says "join server anyway" or whatever...so it's still the same as BF2 and 2142 for that
