I think it has something to do with the limited weapons in the beta. I'd wager the RPG will lose the homing capability in the release and another of the anti-tank weapons will home on laser designated targets.
To lean left, lean right or pop up from cover you need to be right up against the object and then right click with your mouse.

The lock-on feature is an arcade thing that they took from Bad Company 1 and 2. Only, in the BC series, you got a warning signal for an incoming locked-on RPG. In the beta, you don't, which is broken. I'm personally fine with it because you get the option of taking the SRAW/ERYX in the full game which are wire-guided. You get to manually control the rocket to its target without needing another player to lock it, at the cost of having to stay exposed to keep the rocket on track.
As for the lean mechanic, it's a bit funky right now. It only works on completely flat corners, and occasionally on other objects. What you have to do is plant your face into the wall at the corner, and your gun will start leaning towards the open corner. When you aim down your sights, you will automatically lean around the corner. From here you can turn the mouse to get a better turn around the corner, or release the ADS to go back behind cover. The thing that I've found is that the lean mechanic will break after a while and you won't be allowed to do it. It seems to happen most with the Support LMGs.
My real bone to pick is the MX4. It has the highest recoil of any automatic weapon in the entire Battlefield series, and it doesn't even fire as fast as the P90 or MP7. One you unlock carbines, the AK5-C and ACR are much, much better weapons with the same damage, better ballistics, similar rates of fire, and much better recoil. In fact, the AK5-C is so good, I've taken to replacing the AK-12 with it when I don't want to use the Scar-H.
My only hope is that the unlock selection for weapons is expanded widely at release. The PKA-S with a magnifier would probably be my optic setup for pretty much every weapon."In matters of style, swim with the currents... in matters of principle, stand like a rock."

It isn't always that easy to knock targets down with this strategy. Not only do you leave yourself completely open to attack when you lase a target or try to lock on to one but in seige of Shanghai at least it is very easy to break that lock by ducking in between buildings.

Alright, after having played with the DMRs for a few rounds, I'm completely in love.
The RFB is an interesting hybrid rifle. It's got more stopping power than the Scar-H and much better accuracy along with the same magazine size, but limited by single shot. Personally, single shot only weapons teach me to conserve ammo and make each shot be effective, so I have no problem being limited to single shot even at close range. The 4x combo'd with the canted irons isn't my ideal setup (a 1x with a magnifier would), but is great for counter-sniping as well as taking on groups at close range.
The Mk11 Mod 0 I think isn't programmed properly in the Beta. For some reason, they kept its high damage while boosting its ammo count from 10 shots to 20. This makes it a straight upgrade from the RFB sans the hipfire bonus that the RFB gets. I also got lucky and got the battlepack the JGM 4x (Chinese) for the Mk11, which is a much better mid range optic than the ACOG. I find the ACOG to be too blurry and imprecise, whereas the JGM gets a simple dot at the center that is much cleaner and accurate.
Unless things change in release, I don't think I'll ever pick up a weapon outside the DMRs unless the CZ 805 turns out to be a good weapon."In matters of style, swim with the currents... in matters of principle, stand like a rock."
