After it's last service pack it was pretty good. It was basically Windows 7 at that point.

Incredible right? Have you played bf3 yet? Watch how crazy smooth it is now! Seriously I'm amazed at how DICE and Microsoft have done 180 degrees for me... Love them both right now!

What's the difference between installing the classic shell and using Startisback?

I find Classic Shell is pretty damn close to W7... I honestly dont like the styling of W8 - the windows and buttons feel cheaper than W7, dunno why! I wish I had W8's performance with W7s looks...

Startisback came highly recommended from others so I got that one. There are a ton of options to get classic look back for Windows 8 though.

Running at 2560x1440 resolution on Ultra settings and average just over 85 FPS, with low FPS of around 70 and high around 105.
Windows 8.1 up and running. With the latest BF4 patch I am now consistent 100 FPS or more, which is right where I want it. Very happy.

On ultra it's a constant 50 with some dips at 40 and highs at 90.

    nice.

    I got
    32 gb gskillz quad channel
    x79 sabertooth
    gtx 590
    i7 3960x
1920x1080 it runs at 60 fps and it dips in the high 50s occasionally.
( the thing is, it was running at 30 fps and lagging huge, when I took the card out, I disassembled everything from the heatsink to the fan and cleaned it good. When I put it back in, it was 60 fps at ultra bf4 settings. )
