10-08-13, 02:52 PM #71It's all about instructions per clock these days. AMD barked up the wrong tree when they lengthened the pipeline so higher core clocks could be achieved. At the same time they reduced the efficiency everywhere else. That's why 4 Piledriver cores will never be as proficient as even 4 Nehalem cores, which are for generations behind.
Even with shadows turned low, player animations eat up CPU cycles. Given Frostbite's elaborate animations, compounded by high player count, it's no surprise even the FX-8350 struggles where a humble i5 does not.
Personally, with an i5-4670k and a 7870, I suffer from highly variable frame rates (read: not frame times), especially when going from between buildings to looking out over the peninsula. ie I'm going from 70 fps to 40 in an instant.

Tell me then why 2 PCs run differently when all that differs is the CPU. The biggest number of complaints here and on other forums is coming from owners of AMD processors. We're talking probably a 3:1 ratio here. It's not just a coincidence.

I used this for Planetside2 and it helped quite a bit. Coder Bag: Disable CPU Core Parking Utility
