Re: really?
This is a real concern for me, and it's part of a long trend. I find that my computing needs in terms of gaming have widely diverged from my other computing needs.
Independent of what any of my employers have provided, I keep a personal machine on which I also do work. In addition to work, my machine is also a conduit for sensitive personal information - I may order things online, or have financial info (taxes, banks), or any of many other things.
As far back as the late 90s I began to have issues with gaming. In 2000/2001 I built my machine with SCSI peripherals, and that caused problems with games (copy protection software didn't expect a SCSI CD drive, and I wound up using shady software just so that I could play the games I bought). I stopped using Windows regularly, and eventually I only used it for gaming. I've been dual-booting for a long time.
In my current machine I boot to three different systems. I have a separate hard drive which only has Windows and which I only use for games. But even then I still run into problems with games.
As described in that article, the license for PunkBuster is so broad that I'm starting to feel like the only way forward for me is to have a second PC that is dedicated to gaming. This is the rough equivalent of deciding to buy a $1600 gaming console.
And it would be a miserable gaming console. I'd have an entire second machine to admin - to patch, to keep current with drivers, etc. It makes me think about reevaluating priorities.
Anyway, thanks to the OP for the link.
Cheers,
AetheLove

Re: really?
There is no privacy any more. Anywhere.
The gov't has my Google Contacts list on file, and are not-so-secretly recording every phone, text, and e-mail conversation.
Visa knows where I am at all times, knows how much I spend and on what, and knows my bill-paying habits.
If I walk in Downtown Minneapolis (or any other major city in the US), I can be sure I am being watched by any number of cameras.
Punkbuster is just getting on an already full bandwagon.
To all of them I ask....How many fingers am I holding up?

Before people go jumping off bridges and donning tin foil hats... Punkbuster only takes a PARTIAL shot of your screen. Half the time, the screenshot doesn't show much of anything It takes a 320x240 snapshot of your screen, typically a random section of your screen. If you're really worried, kill the punkbuster services when you aren't gaming.
