12-29-13, 12:56 PM #1Server settings changes coming
First, please rest assured that these decisions were made after much discussion by the high admins to determine what is best for TPG as a whole. In looking at servers some of us noticed the trend that servers with normal settings prime faster, stay primed later, and are typically more full than custom settings servers like ours, and even HC.
Based on these observations we started a test with our own 32 player server by converting it to normal settings. We have noticed in this short time that it does seem to prime faster when a few regulars join, and the other night it stayed full much longer than our 64 player server. What does this mean? We aren't sure, and that is why we are about to begin a second test, which we hope will provide us with more accurate data.
Starting January 1st we will convert the 32 player Rush/Oblit server to a 64 player Conquest Large server with normal settings. This means it will mirror our current 64 player server in every way other than being normal settings instead of "classic". Our hope is that both servers can fill up, and stay full, giving us 2 full 64 player servers that draws in new regs and admins. If this does not happen, and one server or the other doesn't stay full(or in a worst case scenario both), we will make the necessary decisions to ensure the best possible BF4 experience for our regulars.
Rest assured this is not about what settings one admin, or even a group of admins, likes best, but about what gives us the best chance to not only maintain the player-base we have, but also grow by adding new blood that is looking for our unique teamplay experience. Much like with China Rising, and other DLC, it would be better for all of us if we didn't have to make decisions like this that will likely be disliked by some of our regulars, but this is the hand dealt to us by EA, and we are trying to make the best of it.
During this trial period your CONSTRUCTIVE feedback is greatly appreciated.

Re: Server settings changes coming
That was me yesterday....LOL.
Very well put, Civil.
Now we have options. Vanilla for those who like that flavor, and the classic settings for others who prefer those settings. Either way, we need to show the unwashed masses the advantages of our teamplay ethos. Get people involved, and invite them to the forums. We will need people to help prime, admin, and just be the hardcore teamplayers we all are. Show people why we are different than everyone else, and we should have 128 filled slots with lines out the door.

My 2 cents..I love dropping mines. FF ON gets me kicked on TPG from the tk's. Health regen is stupid but players do not drop health packs and most players are Engi's.
In BF2, the game is structured differently from BF3/4. So when I play normal for BF4 with health regen..it is how the game was structured and I am fine with that.P|lls liked this post

Re: Server settings changes coming
What we need is a plugin that will send players to the "second" or non primed server if the one they are joining is full. CS had a plugin like that. It worked very well for keep multiple servers populated.
A second option is to Advertise both servers in game so players will know we have 2 BF4 servers.
Looking forward to having 2 BF4 servers, Lets keep them primed and build a HUGE player base.Jester(TA) liked this post

In an ideal world EA will some day deliver what they promised, and allow people without DLC to play on servers that have DLC as long as it is a map that they have access to. Until then it is in our best interest to cast the widest net, and that is stock maps only.
