As arcadey as it is, I would not complain in the least if the tracer dart pistol came back, rebalanced of course.
Giving up a sidearm in BF4 means very little, since most guns reload faster than it takes to pull out your pistol, so I would drop the CZ-75 in favor of the tracer dart any day. My idea for balancing would be that it only works with normal laser guided weapons (SRAW, Javelin, LAW), but only allow for one lock-on hit. The logic behind that being the rocket destroys the dart. This would give more occasions for people to use the Javelin, but because smoke/IR smoke can "dislodge" the tracer dart (In BC2, deploying smoke, either from infantry or from the vehicle, destroys the dart), it's a simple matter to break the lock. The obvious trade off for the soldiers being that it's a one time use, and you give up your standard sidearm to have the capability."In matters of style, swim with the currents... in matters of principle, stand like a rock."

I'm talking about a safer, one use alternative to the PLD/SOFLAM. Both the PLD and SOFLAM are squishy (with the PLD, you being the one who's squishy), but the tradeoff is an unlimited number of hits from any number of launchers. With the dart gun, you could tag something at close range to allow a one-shot-only lock on. The PLD and SOFLAM are annoyingly difficult to use when you're right next to armor.

Could just get rid of them all together and just put in the tracer dart. Balanced of course with maybe some range limitations and stuff like that but it could work. Sadly it is just all wishful thinking and the reality is that this will never happen.
