It's true.

And it's not bad. Do it on Medium to stay awake. Hard isn't that hard, either. At the end, you will choose between three possible outcomes. The outcome you choose decides the weapon you get for finishing the game. I can't remember which gives you the 249. I know I got the P90 on my first go-round.

It takes a couple/few hours to get through, but it looks nice.

Choose neither and let the Valkyrie explode: QBZ-95-1 Assault Rifle
Let Irish sacrifice: M249 SAW
Let Hannah sacrifice: P90

Difficulty doesn't matter, so just play the last mission over on Easy.

As for the topic, if you haven't used a deployed MG, you've never used them correctly. The RPK-74, RPK-12, QBB-95, and U-100 don't really benefit from bipods. Of those, however, my ranking from best to worst: QBB-95, RPK-12, RPK-74, U-100. The 74 and U-100 have some weird bouncing that makes them harder to tap fire.
