03-04-14, 10:50 PM #1Team Scramble Plugin
So... why was the team scrambler plugin changed to not preserve squads? I get what's being attempted at being done... but it really doesn't in my opinion work any better. Being in a squad that works well together one round and then thrown into a squad of strangers the next round really not doing anyone any favors. It totally screws up your rhythm and whatever rapport you established the previous round(s) with your squad. It's worst when you get thrown in with 4 people who don't use their mics, don't set orders and don't work together as a team. If I wanted to play with 4 silent players... I could go play on any server... at least there if I managed to get in a squad that works together... I would most likely get to stay with them for more than a round or two.
Just my two cents.deputyfestus liked this post

Re: Team Scramble Plugin
it was changed originally because 1 ace squad can literally dominate a map in some scenarios which was leading to 3-4 back to back blow outs and numerous rage quits. Preserving 5 players together as a squad in a map that wins by 300-400 tickets makes it really hard to keep the server primed.
This setting was discussed in the admin forums here

and adjusted accordingly and it has been working.
I personally found that in situations of a blowout that required a shuffle it forced ace squads apart and spread the talent and team players around the rest of the groups. This gave the regulars a chance to work with new connects to teach others the TPG way and in some situation identify problem players. If the regulars and aces only play together and trounce the new connects we will never differentiate ourselves from the other normal vanilla servers.
It also had the added benefit of sides not pushing their advantage and spawn camping on maps like locker. Once they new if they won by a landslide that sides would be completely scrambled I found players more likely to pull back to the middle point and hold there to at least give the loosing side a chance. This resulted in closer games and less people rage quitting.
As to the threshold I have no idea how it got set that low, the complete scramble before we switched to vanilla was set to 400 tickets I think, but the complete scramble was there for a reason.Last edited by Phyrelight; 03-06-14 at 09:45 AM.

I think players circumvent the squad scramble by simply creating a new squad with their friends again. I don't think there is a perfect solution to prevent this.

The biggest issue I see is it being a negative to a random group of pubbers who happen on our server. People want to play with their friends. If they keep getting moved around, they're going to find another server. There needs to be a balance between perceived team stacking and moving people around willy nilly.
Personally, If I can't play with the people I want to play with... I'll just go elsewhere.

Re: Team Scramble Plugin
I think if you are going to scramble the teams, a total scramble is the way to go. There are usually very few squads who are highly efficient even on a full server, so when you keep squads together you will probably end up with the same situation again the next round.
In my opinion the way BF4 puts you in a squad automatically is detrimental to the TPG effort anyway. Because it puts a lot of the responsibility of policing the TPG way on the squadleaders shoulders. And if there are a lot of non reg squadleaders, it is a big ask to make them spend a lot of energy on making their squadmates follow orders. Because non TPG regs are not used to that sort of discipline.
It seems to be a misguided incentive to promote teamplay, as squads are (for most players) no longer something you pick, it is something you are automatically placed in when you join.
And when regs gravitate together, as we do because we are regs because we have a better time when we are in a squad working together towards an objective, it means less randoms receive the proper training. Staying in the same squad round after round is certainly convenient when you are in a good one, but it also means less people get the chance to benefit from the tutelage of seasoned regs. And who of us would be here if we did stumble into one of the great squads here at one time or another? Convenient is not really a word that describes TPG for me anyways.
Without regs stepping up and guiding randoms into the fold from the squadleader position, TPG BF4 will just be that annoying place where you get kicked or even banned for not following commander orders. Without regs stepping up as squadleaders, we can never expect randoms to learn about what makes TPG special, and that means TPG BF4 wont be special.
Now I know being a squadleader is a big responsibility, and not everyones cup of tea. It probably took me 200-300 hours of TPG BF2 before I felt comfortable trying to run a crew, because the bar was set so high by the great squadleaders that made me stay on a server where I had 150 ping. But regs leading randoms is the only way to get there ("there" is evermore regs promoting the TPG way, btw).
Hmmm, started out as a short note on the teamscramble feature... What can you do?For when the One Great Scorer comes, to write against your name, he writes not that you won or lost, but how you played the Game
