BF2 was like checkers. Fun to play, plenty of strategy, but still fairly casual. Games like ARMA and PR are more like chess. You can have fun, but it feels more like either a second job, or brain exercises when done correctly. BC2/BF3/BF4 are more like 52 card pickup in most cases. Just throw a bunch of crap on the floor, and laugh at someone else's expense.

Re: Battlefield 2 Intro - Redone for Battlefield 4
I don't see much difference between BF4 and BF2. The GAME is about the same. The players are twats for the most part. And I don't even think there are MORE twats than there used to be. I played BF2 for a while before I gave it up because I got tired of said twats. I only picked it up again after about a year of inactivity because I wanted to give it one last shot. I just happened to stumble into TTP's server. Then it was a different game. And there's no reason we can't have that same atmosphere now. The difference isn't the twats or the game. It's that we aren't forcing people to play our way. I said it in another post... we need to be admins 100% of the time if we are taking on the job. Fucking kick people if they aren't doing what they are supposed to be doing. Sick and tired of seeing regs off doing their own thing without the squad leader's consent/orders to do so. Sick and tired of seeing admins ALLOWING it. ENFORCE THE ANTI-TWAT RULES and we'll HAVE BF2 back WITH BF4!

Bf4 almost encourages us to run and gun, its pretty easy to get a say 5 kill streak on bf4. But it always seemed much harder in bf2. Everything felt harder and you work with your team a lot more if you wanted to get anywhere. Bf4 is much easier, and to off on your own.

It's only easier to go off on your own if you want to disobey your squad leader... or admins... And only if the admins allow it.
There was no reason you couldn't do that in BF2 as well. In fact it was generally easier to get a kill streak on your own than enter the meat grinder that was protecting a flag or taking it.

This is partly true, but in my limited play time in BF3 and 4 they both seem more linear than BF2 was. I am willing to admit that this may be because I do not know the maps anywhere near as well as I did in BF2, but it just seems there isn't really a point to holding any one flag other than to keep your enemy from holding it. Yes, I realize some flags give you access to cool toys, but I look at BF2 maps, and certain flags seemed more strategically important, and thus were more readily contested. Not to mention the lack of ability, or need for that matter, to capture main bases and commander assets, and I personally feel the game is less strategic than BF2 was.
There is also the possibility that I am old and crotchety, and just remembering the "good ol' days".GrandMasterGuess liked this post

BF4, BF3 = the new Coke
My goal is to succeed in any mission - and live to succeed again.

Re: Battlefield 2 Intro - Redone for Battlefield 4
Bf2 was years ahead of the gaming market, it was a fun squad based military shooter that was aimed at hard-core gamers. The mechanics were acceptable and the game was full of bugs, only the last patch really did any justice to it. Voip was clear. Hit reg was quirky but it was totally on the ball. Bf4 is incredible and has many of the things of bf2, but the way they made this cake doesn't feel as passion filled as bf2 was. Problem is bf2 could've been built by 5 dudes and now it's built by 50 dudes... I've said it before, the gaming environment has changed so much that now it's a race to get games out so your product doesn't become outdated and old (day z cough cough).
