Need some Info from AMD users

I need people who have AMD 7000 series or R7/R9 series cards to tell me if their DirectX 11 performance graph looks similar to mine. I included my settings for reference (minus having Deferred Anti-Aliasing set to 2x), and the performance graphs for Mantle and DX11. For some reason on DX11, while the card can pull far more than the 60fps limit I have set, I get constant microstutter, as shown by the green line spiking above and below the yellow line (CPU frametime is the yellow line, GPU frametime is the green).

    Use the following commands:
    perfoverlay.drawgraph 1
    gametime.maxvariablefps 60
On Mantle, optionally use render.drawscreeninfo 1 to view how much VRAM your GPU is using.
My GPU is the R9 285.

    Thanks.

Re: Need some Info from AMD users

    Good evening,

I have an R9 290 and I used to have crazy microstutter and was driving me nuts. The problem after I did some investigation is the card was thermal throttling itself (IE way to warm). I took off my cooler re-applied thermal past and made a massive temp difference. I also noticed when I was unscrewing the 10 or so screws all of them were loose as well making my initial problem even worse. Basically they do a shitty job at applying the paste and fastening the heat sink.

If you have two monitors pop open the amd control panel and monitor the fan speed and temp or use a 3rd party software that can record it while you game if you have one monitor. Mine was 93C and fan at 100% it would throttle down to less than half of the initial Core Clock to keep the termals in check. Now it stays around 86C ish at about 75% fan speed, and never throttles.

Also one more note. The most common cause of micro stuttering is not enough V-ram. My previous video card Had 1 gig of ram and when I got a new monitor a long while back that slight increase is resolution made it micro- stutter (but perfectly smooth otherwise). A big hit to the V-Ram is Resolution or High levels of AA on.

Unfortunately, neither of those situations is the case. The cooler that HIS slapped on this 285 is bigger than the PCB itself. Under the most stressing and lengthy workload, I can't get the card to go above 59C. Mantle is also more memory intensive than DirectX11, and even under normal circumstances High Textures with 2xMSAA wouldn't cap out the 2GB on the 285.

Upon further testing, however, when I removed the in-game frame limiter on DirectX 11, the microstutter went away. What I can't explain is why the frame limiter poses no issues in Mantle, but DOES in DirectX 11.
