Re: Summer patch, tickrate
Your mistake is trying to use sound logic. That doesn't fly with EA. To understand crazy, one must be crazy.
Here's the deal....It's not up to EA alone. In fact, they would play a very minor role in multiple tickrate servers. The real players would be the server hosts. They would have to not only start offering different tickrate servers (almost like different tiers of service), but decide what the "standard" tickrate server is, and hope that their current customers agree. Every BF4 customer thay have would be affected. Not that it is impossible (multiple tickrate servers are available for CS:S), but they haven't even mentioned anything about it, let alone begun trying to sell anyone anything. If something like this were actually to happen, there would be a 6ish month sales/hype period where server providers would be trying to sell upgraded servers. We haven't heard a word about it from our providers. If multiple tickrate servers become available, you can bet we will know about it months in advance because our host will want to sell us an upgraded server. It most certainly won't just happen with an EA patch.Last edited by dex71; 09-02-15 at 04:33 AM.

Re: Summer patch, tickrate
Yeh, I guess you're right. Although, is there ever been a precedent before? A game for which server providers eventually offered upgrades years after its release?
Guess I'll go and speculate there's the possibility that, if DICE/EA are working with different server providers to make it a reality (as they should, at this point), they might be forcing them to keep their mouth shut. If they''re still working on it, as in "it's doesnt quite work yet", they'd probably want to shield themselves from the potential backlash that'd come if they realize this whole thing just isn't feasible and have to scrap it, while servers providers been advertising about it for months. That's what I'm tell myself anyway for the sake of keeping hope that it might still happen. AKA I'll keep believing EA's lies.Last edited by chray00; 09-02-15 at 08:45 AM.

Re: Summer patch, tickrate
That just sounds like they are nerfing them into oblivion again. I want to be able to use a shotgun and be competitive but to have them kill faster at medium ranges than a DMR is ridiculous. What they need to do is just increase the damage drop of at medium and long ranges. Really I think the problem here is that having balanced shotguns in this game is just not a realistic attainable goal. There are to many subsets of weapons and they just don't fit in with the over all game imho.

Re: Summer patch, tickrate
Yes there has. CS:S eventually had multi-tickrate servers available. It took a while for them to roll out, but we eventually had a 100 tickrate server for a few months. It really didn't make a whole lot of difference, though. Either way, it's possible, and has been done before.
As for the BF franchise......I would bet that it is more for the Frostbite Engine, and less for BF4 specifically. Frostbite will be used for the Star Wars dealy as well as for BF5. My bet would be that the multi-tickrate servers will be focused there as opposed to a game that will most likely be replaced in a year or so (BF4).

Re: Summer patch, tickrate
Guess we aren't done here. Shades linked me to a video, talking about the netcode changes applied with the summer patch, and the road ahead :
(starts talking about tickrate at around the 10 min mark)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAmIhahW8WU
Searching for references, I found that reddit post from DICE. It's a month old.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Battlefield...esting/ctfyok6
" [...] Once Summer patch is out and stable, we are then going to start testing the higher tickrates live with the Rental Server Providers to gauge what their hardware can support, and publish high tickrate rental servers patch on PC some time after summer patch release.
All this is subject to change, but that's the plan for the immediate future.
Following that, we will be testing higher tickrates on the Xbox One CTE as well in controlled playtests - this will take place after summer patch testing has concluded, possibly in conjunction with the Valley map being playable on the Xbox One CTE (which it havent been yet).
Then for a future release we will look at raising our public server tick rates (PC and GEN4) based on the results from both the PC Rental Server data and knowledge learned from that and more playtime and testing.
I have high hopes we will be able to support something like 45hz or maybe even 55hz on Gen4 (remember we need tickrate to be less than FPS for it to be truly worth it).
PC tickrates will be decided by the server that runs it, but hopefully we will be able to increase our public PC servers in the same manner based on data. [...] "
I want to believe.
