    Re: Can we,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    Hi All,

I have been thinking of posting for some time. I have spent some time from gaming due to not having reliable internet and have been back for a year or so now. So my point is I missed the slow dilution of the Battlefield franchise and went from BF 2 to BF 4. But I must digress a little here.

Deputy I was squad leading last night and I have to say I could not hear what you was saying. How ever on sunken Dragon you posted an attack order on E and my squad tried to follow this order. I did notice that someone was moaning at you.

Where has this fallen apart?. Not just last nights example. I mean the BF experience and the way people want to play. I will give an opinion. I am sure there are many more that will have their own.

BF 2 seems a long time ago to those that have gone from that playing Battlefield 2 to Bad Company all the way through to BF 4. There are in fact many that have never played BF 2.

Texas team players. I stumbled upon this server many years ago now after moving from server to server trying to find those that at the time embraced that new first person experience of playing together in a squad, communicating and reacting to cover each others back. I remember those that enjoyed this experience being on the server for hours on end. Devoting a weekend was common place. So good the taste.

    So what changed.

Dice/Ea listened to the loyal masses. Not those that played BF 2 till the carpet was pulled from under their feet. But those that left whining and crying. Be moaning EA and Dice. I remember their arguments well about what was wrong with BF 2. And they won and got their way. Base Rape!! they cried!. AA is overpowered they cried!...they are blowing up our jets and our assets!!....Shot guns are over powered!. Claymores!!....They moaned so much that they changed the experience to nullify the children. Those that will go through life moaning.

The cries were childish and annoying but the crying children changed the face of the BF franchise into a non thinking stand and slug it out fest. Flags are ordered in a way that will not encourage strategic defense at choke points. A more circular design of capture and loss and capture is endured. I have seen the mass ranks charging in circles. The "gamer's design" map in the jungle circular dance is a good example.

The list of changes for game play is quite exhaustive. I would myself love to see strategic objectives brought back. A base to attack a flag to hold. A carrier to board.......A squad that follows orders or dies trying. There are not many now that join a squad and in that squad kits are allocated to achieve an objective. I know there are still those that do. But it is not as common place. And to be fare there are those that do not see the reason why is this merry go round of flag capture. I see squads that are all engineers on Silk Road. All sniper on Hammerhead.....Not exactly a shocking piece of strategy.

I was hoping that BF 1 would be a return to good team play experiences. But I read one chaps comment "if you loved BF 4, you will love BF 1". Well I do not exactly love BF 4 nor do I hate it but it is what I have got for now. If another franchise embraced the better design that was BF 2 I would be gone from BF 4.

The attitude of those that play BF 4 has changed and adapted with the style of game play and many smile and boast at the end of the round at how many they have killed. and they languish no where. While I see the same names at the top that have hit flags hard and move as a squad. I would love to see the attitude change that is desired form you Deputy. For the most part I see a high proportion of roof top battles.

What I am saying is the map designs have played a large part in how people have changed the way that they play. I really love moving in a squad that follows orders......AND MOVES TOGETHER. How ever it is hard to get into those squads.

Bf has changed. Not just the design but the attitude of those that play. I will also say that the attitude towards cheating has changed also and that people ignore it as a parasite that can not be removed.

I agree with you Deputy and on my part I will not languish in that field of acceptance because times have changed. I have pause for thought and will redress the way that I play. Maybe I myself have been guilty of throwing in the towel and following the mass of crying children. Not good. To be redressed.

No Mill you did the best you could and I guess it's a moot point as BF4 is in it's waning days. That being said I do miss the type of teamplay that the community was founded on.

It's not a moot point my friend. Bf 1......bf whatever is on the horizon. Maybe if we shout louder than the children of misery we may get a game that is truly a Battlefield experience. What ever is on the horizon we need to inject a bit of enthusiasm into a greater gaming view point.

Remember when squads backed up and helped other squads?. Really do not see that often.

Maybe we can lure back the regulars that now play cartoon war

The ONLY time BF4 is played how we played BF2 is scrims vs other communities. Most of the pubbers do not give a shit about tactics or flanking or holding flags that spawn major assets. Most asshole commanders want that flag to use the nuke to the consequence of losing the game. If you're in a squad that has 2-3 players then defend a flag and not assault as that squad is useless in capping and holding that area. Low performance or undermanned squads should only attack and defend 2 flags that are near each other. If they added a function for commanders to kick players I would command and yell at everyone.

I'd say I've been guilty at times of not following the Commander's orders occasionally . Just last week, I remember a Rando commanding on Sunken Dragon, my squad was holding the flag closest to their uncap, as there was a constant flow of infantry and armor coming for it, and we were the only squad on that flag. Then the commander, in all his wisdom, spams his order command for us to defend the base closest to our uncap, aka the one on the other side of the map. There was too much shit happening where we were, so I pay no attention to it. So every 2 seconds for the next minute or two I have that high pitched commander order beeping sound breaking our ears. Once it feels like we are finally catching a break I start moving the squad towards our uncap. 1/3 of the way there, the commander puts its order back to the flag where we were (that turned from blue to white) and says in chat "why are you going for that flag? it's not important!". I wanted to bitchslap the commander for that, and from that point, I didn't listen to him at all for the rest of the round.

I aware that it was just a rando, but I think shit like that is part of the reason why a lot of people often rolls their eyes to a commander's order. Not saying that it is right, or that -I- was right.

Also Mill touched on some good points. The map design has a lot to do as to why the commander seems that much less important. I cannot think of any flag in Battlefield 4 that is that important that it warrants a whole squad being dedicated to its defense, the only thing that comes close would be flags close to the enemy's uncap, only for the sake of disrupting their vehicles, but then again it's arguable whether it would be better for the team to just leave as soon as the flag is captured to go chase after another one. By opposition, remember the MEC airbase in kubra dam? The Factory of Karkand? The mosque of Jalalabad? The TV station of Sharqi? The middle flag of Zatar? Remember how much of a big deal it was to deny the enemy's team all those vehicles and assets, or get that one additional gunship? Now it feels completely irrelevant. With all those lock-on weapons, that gunship's not gonna accomplish shit anyway, it will spend 3/4 of his time hiding behind cover waiting for flares to come back, and it will go down once it's gets frustrated and gets too greedy. Basically, what I'm saying is that 95% of the time, when you are done capturing a given flag, it seems that the best possible move is always to go for the closest enemy flag next (as they are almost all equivalent in term of importance), and if there was another squad capping with you, go to the closest enemy flag that the other squad isn't going for instead. I cannot lie, I'm baffled when, once I'm done capping a flag, the commander orders me to cap one that would take 5 minute to reach instead of the one right next to us, and that I see on my expended map that no other squad is going for it. I know that if I don't listen to the commander's order, I'll save our team a handful of tickets by capping a flag in 2 minutes instead of 5. Is that worth it? What if the commander is a rando who clearly doesn't have a clue of what he's doing? Should your obedience change whether it's a reg or a random?

My two cents. Although I must say trying to change the habitudes of the community this late in the game's lifespan might not make a big difference. We're now only a few months away for BF1's launch, which, if I remember right, will have no commander, and I don't expect BF4 to stay alive much longer after BF1 comes around. I agree that squad leaders should try to to listen of the commander's orders as much as they can, but to be honest, I have a feeling that for the short time we have left with this game, people will do as they please. Unless our admins gets ban-happy.

Ah yes indeed I do. I have had epic battles (as we all have) on these maps and good examples of were Battlefield screwed up. Tactics were key and I remember commanders and squad leaders reacting at a moments notice as the battle raged to and throw....How kit choices important..and indeed quick thinking in changing dropped kits. Hold here!.....plug the gap!. Epic times. Epic squads.

    Good post Chray

The admins are not changing the map to Metro every other map. The admins don't change the map that much only on a few occasions.
