Wow! That has to be one of the most unique excuses I've seen yet.
Just remind her, hidden or not, that the bill has to be paid. So essentially you are just throwing band width out the window for free. Of course, that could back fire and she will save you money by cancelling the service.

Re: why I'm gone
WorstPE,
This sounds like a good time to negotiate.
Tactic 1- Your wife is trying to communicate with you and has not succeeded in getting your attention till now. Give her your attention. Sit down and explore her concerns. Explain your concerns with her and come up with a mutually agreeable solution.
Tactic 2- Your wife does not realize she is dealing with a hardened warrior, a Captain Silver, a leader of men. Like any good insurgent or specop you must look for her weaknesses. Recon her stuff, explore her defenses, and develop a plan. Just before dawn take that item from her and secure it. Leave a ransom note with your terms and sign it WorstPE. You can have more fun with this if you accidentally "find it" and bring it to her attention and then offer to be the negotiator. You, after all, are not the bad guy here but you know how to get in touch with him.....if only you had access to your cable modem.
The choice is yours soldier but I advise you to make it carefully.

Take her for ransom...Oh wait...She has it right? Damn...
Joe's way makes more sense, but... Why not just send her on vacation, don't have her take anything, destroy the house looking for it, play for about ehh...a week. Then when she comes back, go buy some tools and say you were trying to remodel the house before she came back.
If you don't have enough money to send her on vacation and buy tools, go with Joe or Turtle's idea.Cowards never start. The weak never finish.

Re: why I'm gone
I'be been married for 22 years. In general I don't hand out advice, but I will say this: everyone has to work it out for themselves. The easiest way to do that is to find a balance between what each person wants.
Hope you're able to reach a reasonable conclusion.
