    Hang in there hawke.
Yea, I got quite a few of them back when I first started. Mostly by being chewed up and spit out by people who knew how to play when I did not.

Whenever I have a bad night I usually blame it on my internet connection speed. It's not my fault everyone else on the server has a .13 second advantage over me.

    Geforce 8400 question

    first post.

So i just bought an Nvidia GeForce 8400 gs 512mb PCI for my old HP Media Center m1264n, specs here HP Media Center m1264n Desktop PC- Product Specifications

I had a radeon 9200 before this and when i tried to play L4D it would black screen. My new 8400 comes tomorrow in the mail and I am just wondring if everything should run decent when I install my new card. I guess my primary concern will be that my comp is too old. Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

Your 8400 should smoke this game in comparison to a rad. 9200. I wouldn't be worried about your video card once it's installed.

However, what I WOULD worry about is the rest of your PC, namely the expansion slots within. Does your motherboard have a PCI/E slot for your new 8400? As far as I know, the 8 series comes in PCI/E only that I've seen, and the old 9000's from Radeon generally were available in AGP. Seldom, if ever, does a single motherboard sport BOTH of those connections, so you might not even be able to install the card. More info on your system would be helpful.

Well then...I can't say I've ever seen a card in the DX10 lines under PCI support; I would have thought that to be a bit of a bottleneck. Still, that card should boost you forward quite a bit, though PCI has generally been considered the bottom rung as a video card bus.

Just saw that you had a link to your PC too. The 3.0GHz is nice enough, though you may want an additional GB of memory down the road. Memory is cheap and it'll go a long way in your machine. My last rig had similar specs as yours now, and should be able to hold it's own still for a little while longer.

thanks for the help. I installed the card last night and was running the game at 30-40 fps on medium settings. pretty darn cool.
